I'm so glad to hear your Dad came through the surgery alright Sonshine.

Today has been an amazing day. I went to work and got to go on an outing with my patient and his Mom to pick up some things for his daughter for Easter. She was only three months old when he had his accident and even at the age of 10 she is very, very protective of her Dad. After I finished working I stopped at the local hardware store and talked to them about the jelly jars (my daughter wants to make strawberry jam for her favors for her wedding - 150 jars) and found out that they have pallets and I can take them any time I want (the place where I was getting them is closing) and I checked on the price of the metal roofing for the barn and it is only going to cost me around $150 for the whole roof. I'm pretty sure by the time the building is up it will probably have cost me around $300, which isn't too bad. I had a friend suggest that instead of using siding I just stack my hay around the building but I'm afraid I'll end up with very sick critters because they will eat it all the time. After I checked on prices of stuff I went to the worship leaders house and we got the coconut macaroons made and had dinner and fellowship. I came home to a surprise of fresh eggs on the front porch (my friend down the road I'm sure) and I have a wonderful friend sending me some garden seeds I couldn't find anywhere. God is good.

The weather was beautiful today, although a little cool and really windy. I'm leaving the pellet stove running tonight. I was hoping I was through with that but I guess not. In a way I wish it would get a little warmer and rain. We really need the moisture.

Hope everyone had a good, productive day.

Well, I survived "Taco Night"! Smile hopefully I can stand up straight tomorrow, my back is killing me.

Sonshine, now I know why they eat like they do, they both lack cooking skills. She eats no meat nor does she give it to the kids and he cooks most of the meals. She said "Someday I'll learn to cook from scratch, probably when the kids are older." He said "It's enough to just get some type of food on the table when the kids are screaming they are hungry."

Sonshine, glad to hear your dad came through the surgery fine.

Keith, I hope your wife is doing well.

Amy, I hope things are going well for you.

Backtotheland, I'm glad you had a good day and things are moving along for your barn and the wedding.

Well, I didn't get anything else I wanted to get done today, so I'm sure I'll be busy tomorrow. Wink The peanut butter eggs are #1 on my list in the morning. Very Happy

I had a nice surprise this morning, my blood sugar was 139!!!!! bounce bounce bounce Yeah, my numbers are FINALLY going in the right direction!!! I still have to tweak my dose of insulin, but my numbers are finally starting to improve after only 6 days on the new insulin.

Backtotheland, congratulations on finding a place to get the pallets from and on the eggs. God's blessings are wonderful, aren't they?

Patrice, glad you survived taco night and I hope your back doesn't cause you too much discomfort. Great news on the blood sugar. Looks like the meds are doing their job.

Keith, how's your wife doing? Praying for a speedy recovery.

My Dad made it home ok and is recuperating. My sister is there with them. I told Joe that I must take after my Dad, he seems to bounce back from surgeries pretty quickly and until my back surgery I was like that. Whereas my sister had the same type of surgery as Dad just had last year and her recovery was slow. I think she's more like our Mom in that aspect. Dad still has one more hernia surgery to go through, but I don't know the date yet for that one.

The schools here are out for spring break this week, so Ty's friends came over to spend the day with him. Then they invited him to their ball game. This gave Joe and me a much needed date night. We went to Logan's for supper. I had steak, brocoli and toss salad. I love their steaks.

I guess we have some wet weather heading our way. I've been hurting today and it's gotten worse as the day progressed. Getting older is not for sissies!

Sorry for neglecting to reply here before now.

Sonshine, glad your dad came through fine, praying for a speedy recovery.

Patrice, that is great news about the blood sugar. Taco night sounds like an adventure, glad you survived mostly unharmed. Hope your back feels better after some rest.

backtotheland, yes Gods blessings are abundant. Congratulations on locating a new source for the pallets. Just as you have a mystery egg giver, we seem to have a mystery lawn mower. When we got home from the hospital yesterday someone had mowed our front yard. No small feat, the property is 350' wide, and it's 50' to the road from the house...great neighbors are a rare blessing.

Angie (my wife) is doing pretty good. There was some swelling and numbness today that required re-working the dressings and splint, but after a nap with strategicly placed ice packs she felt good enough to drive the power chair around and look at the flower beds, and the blueberries. After supper she asked to go to church for bible study, and was able to use her crutches instead of a wheelchair.

While she napped I mowed some of the back yard and pulled out a stump with the tractor, then for supper I fixed pork tournados with baked potato and a salad.

Today Bekka went to my parents house so she could do some work for them before Easter. It was also a day of getting no work done. The internet was down and I had to take my box to the company to let them reprogram it. Something in their system went down and all of us that reset our boxes due to use having internet problems lost the programing. I guess their day was not a good one. When I went into the office the three men that work there were busy answering phones and apologizing for the problem. They did call after they fixed their end and told me how to fix mine. Then my computer went down and I had to work on it the rest of the day.

I go to day for testing to see how well my dyialsis is doing. I wont find out until next week at the earliest. There are several test I have to do.

For dinner we had frozen pizza and Jr had chicken pot pies.

Post by PlainFolk Thu Apr 05, 2012 9:25 pm

Morning all ~~

I'm going to mostly be out of pocket for the next few days.

I have an extra teenage boy in the house today, came home with him yesterday, lol. That's one thing I love about my close knit group of friends ~ one never knows how many kids they will end up with at the end of the day. We tend to trade them back and forth freely. :-)

Yesterday we had a bathroom shower head/piping explode water everywhere - kind of like you see in the movies. We got the piping fixed but I didn't have time or energy to fix the bathroom back up and give it the good cleaning it needs from the episode. So I'll set to doing that shortly.

Tomorrow my son and I are leaving on an overnight trip. So I've got to squeeze in getting packed up into my day today. We'll get back probably the middle of the night Sat night/Sun morning. Then Sunday is, of course, Easter so I'll be busy with that.

So if I don't see you lovely people until the end of the weekend, have a wonderful and blessed Easter!!

pretty uneventful day today, weather cooled off into the 60's for a high, supposed to drop into the low 40's tonight.

Supper was inspired by some previous posts, minute steak, breaded and fried, fried taters, green beans, and corn on the cob (frozen, not fresh)

Post by backtotheland Fri Apr 06, 2012 6:35 pm

Woke up this morning to the sound of fire trucks, got up and looked out my bedroom window to see a fire right down the road from me. It turned out to be a three alarm blaze. I'm not sure if it was just in the woods, can't figure that one out at 5:50 in the morning, or a house. It looks like it is pretty well contained now. I hope and pray no one was injured.

Didn't get much done but work yesterday. I work today until four and then go to our Passover dinner. This week-end I intend to just pick up some pallets and hopefully some other things I need, wood for the barn, screws, saw blades and chicken wire. The hardware store up the road from me is closing and they are selling everything at 10% off so I might be able to save some money there. The barn is scheduled to start going up next week but with the hours I'm working and gas prices I'm concerned about the people coming to help me. I'm sure if it is meant to be God will find a way.

I'm having the internet shut off at the house on Monday in an attempt to save money. I will be able to go to the library and check my e-mail and on here during the week or on Saturday. It will be a pain at first but I will get used to it. Getting my little homestead started is more important right now and I need every penny to do that so I'm trimming where I can.

Hope everyone has a good Easter and I will check in on Sunday before the internet is shut off and I will be able to get to the library on Monday to check in too.

Happy Easter, enjoy your dinner, and good luck with your barn. We opted to cut out the house phone, (keeping cell phones) and cable/satellite and found a cheap internet provider, saved about $200 a month with that move alone.

We went with magic jack for our phone and have been very happy with it.

Today I didn't get much done. It was drizzling rain and the temps have dropped. It's not cold, but a bit of a chill in the air most of the day.

Tonight for supper we're having barbeque ribs, baked potatoes and fried squash.

We went fishing yesterday and today. We caught enough for a huge dinner of fish french fries and jalapeno hush puppies. This weekends projects are to mow the grass and work on a worm bed/compost box. Hubby also bought two metal buildings for $250. When we got home I looked them up on line and the total price would have been $900. These are brand new just missing the screws so I figure he did really good. We are planning on putting them up in the next few weeks. It was to windy today to try.

Bekka went to my parents so I am taking Wesley to a huge Easteregg hunt at his church. they are having a helicopter drop eggs for them to find. Then we are going to my parents Sunday.

sounds like a great deal Amybyrd, and a great way to spend Easter weekend. I mowed some today, with the push mower and Scythe, tomorrow I'll finish with the riding mower. Also tomorrow I will be digging up and re-planting 6 Damsen plum trees I have been given. These run around $40 - $60 each for the size they are.

Today we got the rest of our garden done with the exception of the corn, which we'll get in one day this week. We also have to get our animal garden planted this week.

Then I did some cooking for tomorrow. We're going to have ham, potatoe salad, pea salad, baked beans, deviled eggs and something a friend taught me how to make called frog eyed salad, it's similar to ambrosia. Our neighbor will be bringing the dessert.

For supper we at our at the Japanese steakhouse.

Great news about Joe Sonshine.

Sounds like your dinner is going to be wonderful.

Just to want everyone know that I'll be absent for a while, except I will be able to check in at the library on their wireless. I have to make a choice between having a small homestead with the things I want and the internet and the internet lost. I'll be able to check in at the library a couple of times a week though.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

Congratulations to Joe. cheers

Today we put about a ton of well cured manure on my garden and tilled it in. Garden soil is looking better and better. I also did some repair on my daughters rabbit pen and she will be bringing home a couple of rabbits. These rabbits are not meat rabbits though. She just wants them for pets. Very Happy
I have raised meat rabbits in the past. But I am OK with just pets for her.
For supper - sweet potatoes and ham and mixed veggies, pretzels and dip, washed down with good filtered water.

Today was the day they delivered my dyalsis supplies. It takes up alot of space so we worked on clearing out space to put it all today.

We are fighting with dog issues. I have one dog that is sweet as he can be until feeding time. Even though they have seperate dishes when the puppy gets near his food he attacks him. Yesterday he gave him a scratch under the eye. I had to chain him up today so he is not happy. I am looking for him a home now since he does not seem to like it here.

For dinner we had free pizza from dominoes. I got to get two artisian pizzas and they were pretty good for free. Smile
