According to Grandma Nettie you should just barely bring the mixture together. It can even still be floury and crumbly and make good biscuits. If you knead biscuit (or pastry) dough at all or let it get warm then it gets heavy. On the other hand the MORE you work a yeasty bread dough the better the bread.
Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
I hope everyone is doing well and you all had a wonderful Easter (Resurrection) Sunday.
We had our three girls, their husbands and two of our grands here Sunday for lunch. We had ham, turkey breast, baked beans, green beans, corn, potato salad, Erica's potato salad, Lisa's deviled eggs, coconut pie, chocolate pie, rolls and sweet and unsweet tea.
We have been eating leftovers since Sunday and still have enough for another couple of days.
After lunch we had an egg hunt. Those children love to hunt eggs. Our son wasn't here if he'd been here there would have been a more rambunctious egg hunt. All of the hunters were 35 and above except for the two grands. I so enjoy watching them have fun. The girls and the boys have a contest to see who can find the most eggs. The last two years the girls have won. They don't let the guys live it down either. LOL
We've been having some cloudy weather and a few sprinkles. I want to get our garden planted. We didn't get to do it Friday because it was supposed to be heavy rain and I was afraid that the rain would beat the seed into the ground.
It's been very nice here temp wise the last few days. I hope the colder weather is gone for a while.

I'm glad you had a nice Easter MM.
It's raining and chilly here with a few more days of rain in the forcast.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
A nature area near us used to have a really cool "egg" hunt every Easter time. I am not sure if they still do or not. The "eggs" were large paper eggs made from old wallpaper books. Each egg had a number on the back of it. There were three different hiking trails and each was a different age group egg hunt. The easiest trail to hike was for kids under 5. The middle trail was for kids 5 - 12 and then the mountain trail - actually a big rocky hill around the lake - was for 12 and up. The number on each egg coincided with a prize that you picked up when you turned in your eggs at the main office. Most prizes were candy of some kind but each trail also had actual prizes that were age appropriate and an age appropriate grand prize as well. When the kids were little we took them almost every year.

That sounds really cool FF, I'm sure everyone had a great time.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
We are all well today. Got my schooling done early. We are at my SIL and I am doing laundry and planning my garden space.
We are planning on Fajita's for dinner. Got stir fry meat really cheap.
It is very sunny and warm here today. We had thunderstorms really early this morning. Mid 80's today.

Sounds like a nice way to spend the day. I always liked when we got done early when I homeschooled.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
Thank you Patrice.
It has been raining off and on today so we've been inside all day. I have most of the laundry done and we've got things cleaned from the weekend. On weekends around here we only do what has to be done. When we both worked we would give the apartment or house a good cleaning on Thursday evening after work so we could enjoy the weekend. When we lived in an apartment we'd have to go to the laundermat every Saturday. I always hated doing that. Was so glad to get into a house where we could have a washer and dryer.
We had sausage and biscuits and coffee for breakfast this morning. I'm making DH some Spanish rice and a quesadilla for me and tacos for DH for dinner.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
It's still raining here. Not right this minute but has off and on for the whole week. Needless to say we don't have any more garden planted. We have everything when the weather gives us a chance to get it done.
I'm going to transplant some tomato plants in a few minutes. There's three varieties--yellow cherry, roma and one called lollipop. We also have some better boy and big boy plants to put out when we can.
I made some quesadillas for breakfast this morning using leftover scrambled eggs with sausage and cheese.
For dinner I'm going to make a stuffed pepper using leftover Spanish rice and taco meat filling, English peas and an onion, cucumber and tomato salad. Another leftover. LOL I hope you all know I do cook sometimes. I'm learning to use any leftovers I have to keep down grocery costs.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

We went out with my sis and James (her SO) for dinner tonight as well. Mexican. Yum!
Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
We got a big rain last night around midnight. There was tornado sighted in a county southwest of us but I haven't heard of any damage or injuries which is a good thing.
It was cloudy when I got up this morning but on up in the day the sun came out and we had a beautiful, warm day. I believe that the next three days are supposed to be pretty. I hope so we have some garden work we need to get done.
Our Boxer/Mountain Cur mix puppy knocked the back gate open and took off to the road this afternoon. One of the young ladies I used to keep hit her. Both her left legs are scraped but she has been walking around until a little while ago. I think it's because she's sore and the legs are bruised is the reason she's not moving around as much.
We have a four foot fence to keep the dogs in the back but she is big and pretty powerful. When she hit the gate it flew open. I hate that she got hurt and I really hate it for the girl driving. She was so upset.
DH said there's dogs that roam that road all the time and they never get hurt but let Honey get loose and she gets hurt. DH was upset too. He's really attached to both our dogs.
I haven't done much cooking today. We grabbed whatever we wanted for lunch and I cooked some ziti and put cheese sauce over it along with mixed vegetables for supper.
I don't know if I have something going on with me or I have spring fever. I haven't felt up to par in a couple of weeks. Now my legs are giving me fits when I stand up for a while. I hope it's spring fever.
I wish you all a great week ahead of you.

I am glad that your dog didn't get hurt worse. It is so scary when they get out like that.
I hope your legs feel better soon. You might try an Epsom salts soak. It seems to help me a lot.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
Sorry to hear that your dog was injured, I hope she'll be alright. I hope you'll be alright too.
Things were ok this morning but this afternoon my dh was in rare form. I'm exhausted and needed a nap but he just wouldn't leave me alone. He kept pestering me about needing to go get his new truck (there ISN'T a new truck) . I even locked him out of the bedroom but he just kept waking me up. I'm waiting for my ds to get home from work so I can go to bed.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
Sorry he's acting up, Patrice. Try to get some rest when you can.
Dd1 is worse. She has good days and bad days, but is able to do less and less, it seems. It's frustrating for her and for us that we can't find a real diagnosis/cure. We've heard of a doctor at the Mayo clinic who understands patients with her illness, so I'm going to research that. Pretty sure the nearest Mayo clinic is several states away from here. . .
We have great warm weather. I'm so glad the snow is gone!

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
That is a game that we are also playing mountainmamma. My D2 has been having issues with the bile duct that is inside of her liver as a side effect of the Celiac disorder that she suffers with. The closest doctor that has a clue about her problem is in Indiana and we live in Missouri.
We have already made a trip there last year for surgery and another one this year for a second surgery and have at least two more trips to go later this year. It is a hardship both financially and physically to have to travel that far for care, but it is VERY VERY worth it.
I encourage you to get your daughter where EVER she needs to go to get a doctor competent and capable for your situation. I will be praying for you all to find the right doctor to help.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
I was feeling kind of down because I get tired so easy but then I read the problems you all are having and mine seems smalls. Will say a prayer for all of you.
We finally got a bed of Louisiana purple string beans planted. The bed is sixteen feet long and four feet wide. We planted seven rows across the bed. So we have 112 feet of Louisiana purple beans planted. That's in addition to the Yardlongs, Rattlesnakes and I hope the TN Greasy. The Yardlongs and Rattlesnakes are up but the TN Greasy beans haven't come up yet.
We set out four of the tomato plants that DH bought last week. We have the beds ready for the rest of those tomato plants and the pepper plants (4 varieties).
DH is breaking up some ground for butter beans. It's going to be wide enough for maybe three rows of beans and is about 28 feet long.
He said he saw a neighbor who plants truck patches and told him we would be needing some peas this year. Maybe I can get three or four bushel of peas from him. Then IF our butter beans and green beans make we'll be fixed up with beans and peas for the winter. We still have the Italian flat beans to plant.
We also have the okra to plant. I just hope all these veggies produce for us.
The cucumbers are up or most of them any way. I may have to replant three or four hills. If the pickling cukes do good I'm going to try to can DH some pickles. He loves sweet pickles. I used to can sweet pickles when my children were little but it's been a long time.
We had fried eggs and turkey bacon for breakfast this morning. I'm cooking butter beans, rice and fried chicken legs for supper. DH is going to a baseball game this afternoon so we're eating early today.

What kind of peas do you plant MissMomma? I would love to find an English pea that can tolerate a bit of heat. It seems like every time I start getting peas it gets hot and my plants simply burn up.

We planted zipper cream peas one year in our raised beds but they didn't do well. I would like to plant some English peas but it gets too hot here before they make.
If we get any peas this year they will be purple hull peas and we will either get them from our neighbor or from our daughter.
I love to have a larger area to plant but DH doesn't want to do that. So, since he has to do most of the work in the garden I won't push.

Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................
MM, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I hope she's better.
We had a heck of a storm last night, first bad thunder storm of the season. It seemed like it went on forever. I was just finishing work (I work from 3 to 10 at home) and am glad I was done on the computer. Not sure what today is going to be but the forecast says rain and it was raining when I got up.
Yesterday I got my laundry done after I got back from taking care of my friends cats. I made cream of broccoli soup for supper. I was going to make stuffed peppers in the crock pot today but I forgot to take out the ground beef from the freezer so they may be for tomorrow. I think today I'll make pasta with chicken sausage and peppers. Today I'm going to vacuum and steam clean the floors and rugs and hopefully have time to get some chocolate chip cookies baked.
I enjoy reading about all your gardening. I'm going to have to do container gardening this year and won't do much of that until I see where the sun is going to be once the trees leaf out. I saw on a show Food Network last weekend where they grew garlic, onions and celery in pots. They used the veggies they had gotten from the grocery store but I will use onion sets and garlic from the farmer's market. I have organic celery in the fridge and I'm going to give that a try. If anyone does container gardening I would appreciate any advice.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I have been container gardening for a long time. I would be happy to help. Perhaps I should start another thread on here, so that we can keep all of the info in one place.
