How has your day been and what's for dinner................... - Page 7 Empty Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................

Post by Mississippi Momma Fri May 04, 2012 9:11 am

I hope everyone is feeling good or at least much better.

It's been cloudy off and on here today. I sure was hoping for another shower but we didn't get it. It will come.

I went to the doctor (family doc) this afternoon for a check-up. I was supposed to go April 5th but wasn't able to get there then. He said my blood glucose is doing good. I'd lost almost seven pounds. My blood pressure looked good and he wrote me an excuse not to serve on federal jury in June.

I got a summons in the mail yesterday for federal jury duty in Meridian. I would be on call the whole month of June. I talked to the Burn Center and was told that I'm not ready to be sitting for long periods of time yet so they faxed me an excuse. Then my family doctor wrote that I am predisposed to pulmonary embolis and that I can't sit for long periods of time without getting up and moving around. I don't mind serving but right now I don't think I'm physically nor mentally ready to try to do this. Also I would have to drive to Meridian for each time I had to serve. Also I have to start calling on May 31st which also means we wouldn't (or I wouldn't) get to go to our daughter'r wedding.

I'm sending the excuses to the people and hope for the best. If they choose to tell me I have to serve I will do my best but I will be so disappointed if I have to miss the wedding.

Sandi and Trinity came this afternoon. Trinity brought us six goose eggs (brown chinese geese) but William said he doesn't want them. We have duck eggs incubating and plan to set the other incubator up this weekend for chicken eggs.

For dinner we had the roast and peppers on hoagie buns., french fries and chocolate chip cookies/vanilla ice cream sandwiches.

Wishing you all a great Friday. May God bless each one of you.

Been a while since I've been here and I hope things are going well for everyone.

Things are moving very, very slowly at my homestead. The barn got started and then had to be put on hold, got started again and got put on hold again, but at least this time the walls are all put together. The reason they didn't get put up was because the guys helping me didn't want me to get injured holding up the walls while they did the corners. It's amazing just how heavy three pallets long by two pallets high can actually be. Hopefully, if the weather gets better, it will be up this week-end. We might be able to work on it Sunday.

My daughter's bridal shower is Saturday so I will miss going to Temple. As this gets closer she is becoming "bridezilla". The bridesmaid's dresses are done but all that is done on hers is the lining. She sold her 2008 Dodge Charger that I bought her (she did pay for half of it) to pay off all her credit card bills, pay for her school which starts in May, and pay for the wedding. I was really stressing out about my not being able to pay for it so today they both came to bring the plates back to me so I can turn them in to motor vehicle and told me that I didn't need to feel bad because I was actually paying for the wedding because I had paid for the car. Life is so complicated sometimes.

My oldest daughter is going through a really tough time right now too. She lost her job because she was late to work a couple times and now because she is working three days a week can't get any help to keep her apartment and is now thinking of giving the kids to their father. I'm beside myself but there is really nothing I can do to help her. I have moved three different times so she could have my home and I'm not doing it again. She told me she makes too much money to get help from Social Services. She makes $680 a month and there are three people in the house. My youngest thinks she is just telling me that to get me to move again and let her have the house. Happy Mother's Day to me I guess.

I keep thinking maybe the best thing for my kids would be if I moved and didn't let them know where I was - then they wouldn't have a choice but to take care of themselves. I feel sometimes I've done them a great disservice by doing so much for them, always at my expense. I think I'm just a bad parent.

I apologize for being so down tonight. I guess I just needed to vent.

My job is going well, I went from being scheduled for 15 hours a week to 43 hours a week which is going to make homesteading challenging but I'll get through it, if it is God's will that is.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day. Sonshine, I agree with MM, she is coming to see you not your house. Take care of yourself and don't overdo.

Sonshine I'm sorry to hear you are having such a hard time now. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Backtotheland, you're not a bad parent. You are/were doing what you thought was/is best for your children. That's all any of us can do. I've found parenting is learn as you go. Smile

I hope everyone is feeling better this evening.

William and I went to Toomsuba today. Some of the nieces let us know that William's Mom's grave had sunken some so we went to the cemetery and put more dirt on her grave and set out some centipede grass sprigs. I cleaned all the old flowers and broken vases off the grave and put new flowers on.

Then we went to her house and William cut the yard. He is exhausted. It's been very hot here today. The hedges needed clipping and I asked him to find the hedge clippers and I would do that but he never told me where they were so the hedges still need clipping. One of the nieces told me that she would go clip the hedges but they were also going to cut the yard and that didn't happen.

We stopped at Ryans and ate a late lunch so we don't need supper. LOL A snack maybe.

I hope that all of you have a wonderful evening and a great Tuesday. May God bless each one of you is my prayer.

Backtotheland, there comes a time when kids have to grow up. I don't think you're a bad parent. I think she just needs to grow up a bit.

MM, thank you for the prayers. As the Bible says, this too shall pass. Smile

We made it back from vacation. We had a great time but I got sick on Saturday. They thought they were going to have to take me to the ER. We still dont know what made me sick.

I am so glad and lucky to have my step daughter and her Hubby moved in with us right now. They are helping around the house while they are looking for local jobs. My son in law is finishing the up stairs and working on odd and end jobs in the house. He also fixed my car. That alone made me happy since I use it to go to the Drs office and have to have it. My step daughter is helping with the cleaning and cooking.

For dinner hubby fried fish, french fries and hush puppies. He also cooked a few Frog legs for him and our two kids.

Things are busy here. It keeps raining and raining, which means my arthritis is killing me and I cant' seem to get caught up on housework and homeschool. This coming weekend we're having a guest speaker come in for church and his wife is going to speak at our Ladies' Luncheon, and I'm hoping I can get the house cleaned up before they come.

We had a snake get in the house the other night. It came in through the air return vent. Our dog went nuts and I thought she had found a mouse, but when I looked, it was a 2 or 2 1/2 foot long snake. I'm not really afraid of snakes, but I didn't know if it was poisonous or not and I certainly didn't want it in my house! Dh tried to kill it with a shovel, but it got away the way it came in. Now every time I pass a vent in the floor, I look to see if it's there! LOL!

Mountainmama,
I'm not a big fan of snakes in the house either. When we lived in Alabama one got in our basement. The dogs went crazy scratching, sniffing and growling at the door. I never saw the snake, but I saw the skin it shed and it was huge!

Been raining here too and is expected to continue for the next couple of days. Unfortunately it's just coming in 5 minute spurts. It'll pour for about 5 minutes, then stop. Then later on it does it again. Not enough to do much good, but enough to make me miserable.

Mountain Momma if you put a few moth balls in that vent you wont have to worry about snakes. We have lots of them here and alot of them are copper heads or rattlers. We have been blessed so far they dont get in the house. I keep moth balls and rat poison out under the house and in the attic. Our dogs out side bay them and then hubby kills them. I usually give them a treat after that.

Post by backtotheland Thu May 10, 2012 1:23 am

Thanks for the kind words Sonshine. Things are getting worse and worse here every day. If I had anywhere to go the day after the wedding I'd be gone.

I've decided that right now it will not be a good idea for me to continue my dream of homesteading so I have cancelled the goats but I still will go ahead with the barn. I found, to my horror this morning, that I have slugs and snails - snails can be deadly to goats and sheep as they pass meningeal worm to them. Soooo, no goats or sheep for me, at least not until the slimy things are gone. I'm going to get ducks and chickens and possibly bunnies for fiber and still do a garden I think. Oh well, it is what it is I guess.

Thanks for the tip on the moth balls amybyrd. I had been parking my car in my garage, wonder of wonders, and the other morning I lifted the garage door, walked in there, pulled the car out, got out to shut the garage door and low and behold there was a baby snake lying there right under the door. I didn't see it until after I had started to pull the door down and I'm pretty certain it's dead now because I screamed bloody murder and let go of the door. I'm surprised that the window didn't break in the door when it hit the ground. I haven't been down there since and won't either. I'll have someone else put the mothballs all over the basement. Lucky I like the smell of mothballs.

Well, I've got some bills to pay on the net and then have to go get my daughter. I'm helping her all I can but I think I'm going to have to draw the line at letting her and the kids come to live with me again, but, I certainly won't let them become homeless either. I may end up living in the back of my SUV. Well, at least it's paid for.

Hope everyone has a good week and a good week-end.

Post by Mississippi Momma Fri May 11, 2012 8:43 am

Our day started out cool but it finally warmed up to the upper seventies. It's nice to be able to leave the air conditioner off every once in a while.

We are all planning to go to North Mississippi tomorrow. Our next to youngest granddaughter finished nursing school and will receive her nursing pin tomorrow evening. I'm so proud of her. She will be a great nurse. She will bring a smile to the faces of her patients. She is very witty but if they don't appreciate her wit she can sing to them. She has a beautiful voice. Smile

William is closing in a shed that we were using to store the lawn mower and a few other odds and ends. We need more space for chickens. Our young ones are ready to move out of the brooder. We're running out of room. He put 41 eggs in the incubator day before yesterday. Anyone up for a sending "chickens to Freezer Camp" festival. While we're at it we have 21 rabbits about ready to go to Freezer Camp and eight not quite ready and twenty eight new borns. I see a lot of rabbit stew in our future. LOL

For dinner we had salmon patties, french fries and baked beans.

I hope you all will have a wonderful Friday.

Back to the Land if you go get some aluminum pie plates and put some cheap beer in them it will attract the slugs and then they drown. My aunt use to have Hostas and had slugs bad. She went and got the cheapest beer she could fins and put them in those disposable pie plates and that took care of the slugs and snails. (Make sure you dont have pets that drink it as I had a dog that liked to do that when I put it out.

Mississippi Momma we had salmon patties too. My daughters Hubby asked me to fix those tonight and meatloaf the other night. My step daughter doesnt like them so I was glad to fix them for him since he hasnt had them in a while.

My step daughter got a job on the first application we went to put in. We went to run errands and went buy a nursing home in town. They called her back before we left town. So they let her go ahead and take the drug test and back ground check. She had orientation today. She is part time for right now but they told her when a full time job came up she would be offered it.

We got our tomatoe plants set out and some onions. We are behind on the garden since I have been sick and Hubby is working 10 hours a day. We now have help around here so we are really catching up on things that need to be done. While my step daughters hubby is looking for work he is also doing a lot around the house. We now have a shower curtain in the bathroom and he is finishing the attic space. He is also helping do some yard work. We have been blessed that they have come to help for a while.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you. Hoping everyone is having a great day. I pray everyone is doing o.k. and feeling better.

We've had rain for the last few days. It was needed. There's rain in the forecast for several days this coming week. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny but we'll see.

William and I have had a busy weekend. Friday we went to North Mississippi for Symanthia's pinning. We didn't get home until very late and then I set up until our daughter who lives in Meridian drove home and let me know she had gotten home safely. I made up for it Saturday though. I slept until almost ten-thirty. If my sister and her daughter had not come over I'd slept the whole day.

We had one of our daughters come to see us today and then I went to my Mom's to visit with her for a while.

It's been a good weekend even though it was busy. I got to have all three of my children together for most of the day on Friday. That's not an everyday occurrence as they live in different parts of the state. I sure enjoyed it.

Have a great week ahead everyone. Smile

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms, grandmothers and aunts! I hope everyone had an enjoyable day. Smile

I hope everyone is feeling better, We've had some rain and it definitely has not played nicely with my arthritis. Sad

It's been a busy weekend here as well, yesterday evening we had our Mother/Daughter dinner at church. It was a very nice dinner and fellowship time. I was on my feet for a few hours helping to get everything ready and I paid for that last night and today, my back and legs were REALLY bothering me afterwards. This morning we went to SS and church. After service let out, we headed to the next town over, to Disc Replay, my son was looking for a used hand held gaming system. From there we stopped and picked up Popeye's chicken and brought it home for lunch/dinner. I then took a much needed nap! Very Happy

I felt bad because I didn't go down to see my step-daughter and her mom today for Mother's Day, but she came down after I got up from my nap. Her mom will still be here tomorrow, so I'll have a chance to visit with her a bit before she heads back home. I did get to visit with her on Friday evening when she got into town. Smile

I have to try and get the garden straightened up and my plants planted within the next couple of days. I didn't have a chance to start many things from seed this year so I just picked up some plants from WalMart last week. Anything is better than nothing at all this year. Wink

I'm not going to attempt to get too much done this week, I have a pantry delivery coming this Friday. I don't want to over do anything with my back/legs acting up like they are. I still need to get the chicken coop/yard cleaned out, but that will probably have to wait until next week. I'm just going to work in the house on some small projects this week, I'm still trying to get the house ready for the graduation party next month. Wink It's slow going, but it took many months for the mess to accumulate so it will take a bit of time to straighten up.

Well, I pray you all have a good week coming up and enjoy some quiet time with your personal Lord and Savior.

Hope everyone had a good Mother's Day. Our Mother's Day Tea went over well. We had a wonderful visit with Jen. Joe and Ty took me out to dinner. Unfortunately it was raining and looks like it will be all week. Joe left for Texas this morning, so this week is going to be a challenge for me.

We're having a beautiful Monday. The sun is shining and a nice breeze is blowing. I can't help but be happy on a day like today. Smile

William is finishing up shelter for the youngest chickens we have. They're almost two months old so I think they will do alright in a pen by themselves. They're outgrowing the brooder they're in. Also, we will be needing the brooder in a couple of more weeks for the chicks (we hope) that hatch from the eggs in the incubator now.

I've been working inside today. I have one more load of laundry to do and then that will be caught up.....AGAIN!

I think I'm going to make some pictures of our garden and see if I can post them on the garden forum and on my blog. I may need new batteries for the camera but there's nothing like trying.

I cooked a big lunch today so we will eat sandwiches for dinner. For lunch we had turkey patties in mushroom gravy, swissh chard sauteed with garlic, green beans and mashed potatoes. You can see why we don't need another meal today.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday and all of you are feeling good today.

MM, I recieved the card you sent me today. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

Today has been interesting. Joe is gone for the week, so I'm trying to do his chores as well as mine. A neighbor boy came over and helped me with the goats and chickens. We have a new queen of our goat herd. Butterscotch got tired of Cookie pushing her weight around so decided to push back. Normally this wouldn't concern me, but since Cookie had triplets she's looking a bit thin and Butterscotch has been keeping her from the feed, so I'm having to feed Cookie separately.

Hope everyone is doing well.

We've had a busy day but it doesn't look like we got much accomplished. We had company for part of the day and that kind of stop progress but that's alright. If we have a tomorrow we'll get everything finished then.

Thursday there's a retirement tea at Neshoba Central for all the teachers who have retired this year. William and his family are invited so we may have all the children here on Thursday. That would be very nice.

I hope all of you are feeling alright. We've had a beautiful day today. No rain in sight but my feet have been hurting like rain is coming.
For dinner we had squash, green beans and fried chicken.

I went to the Dr today. The test show that the Diyalsis is working. The numbers they check for that were all good. I am still very anemic and have low red blood cells and protein in the blood.

We did not get much done today besides going to the Dr.

I grilled a huge pork loin yesterday so every one had left overs. I also made mexican chocolate Browines.

I am hoping by this weekend I will feel like cooking more.

I have made the decision not to do anything with large animals this year at all. I may get some angora bunnies for the fiber and plant a container garden but I think that will be about it. Other than that things are not any better here for me. I think that is another reason I'm not getting any large animals. If I decide to leave here I can at least move rabbits and my garden containers.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day.

Amy so glad the dialysis is working. I'm sorry you're still having trouble with the anemia. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Backtotheland, I'm sorry to hear things haven't gotten any better for you. I know some people who plant container gardens. They have plenty fresh vegetables to eat during the summer. I hope things get better for you. It's hard on a person to have their life topsy-turvy.

Tomorrow is the last day of school for the children. The teachers will finish up on Friday. Our daughter is really looking forward to a few weeks off even though she has some workshops she'll have to attend and will have to work in her room a few days along with meetings at the school. Maybe she can combine the meetings at school and working in her room.

It's a stressful time for all of them. They're still waiting to hear from the biopsy their Dad had done. It will most likely be tomorrow unless he heard today and hasn't told them.

We worked around the house today. William did move the young chickens into their new shelter. That's another job finished. I'll be glad when I can get out and do some work. But right now if I get hot and start perspiring my skin starts to burn so I'm still pretty much staying inside.

Tonight we had pork chop, rice and english peas for dinner.

I hope you all will have a great Thursday. Our three girls are suppose to be here for the retirement tea tomorrow afternoon and then we plan to take them out for dinner.

Today was the first sunny day we've had for two weeks, so I'm busy doing laundry and hanging it out to dry.

For dinner tonight, we're having turkey, corn, carrots, and an apple crisp. If I'm feeling really industrious, I might make mashed potatoes, too.

mountainmama, can I come over for dinner. Smile I haven't done hardly anything this week. The weather just hasn't been cooperating, which means I'm pretty immobile for the time being. I've also only been cooking fast to fix meals. With just me and Ty there's no sense in making big meals. He's picky about what he eats, although he will eat a little of everything I cook, he's usually not happy about it. Tonight we're having tacos.
