Sounds like you have a lot to deal with, backtotheland.

I'm fighting some nasty sinus crud which has taken away my voice. Right now I can only whisper. For a woman who likes to talk, this is like a prison sentence! LOL!

I'm drinking Bigelow "I love lemon" tea and it is helping, and I took some homeopathic honey based cough syrup.

I'll have the kids make chicken stir-fry for dinner. They like to don aprons and chop the veggies.

Backtotheland, I hope things are going better for you.

mm, I hope you feel better soon.

William went with his friend, Robert to take Robert's dog to the MSU veternary school for a checkup on its back. I had the day at home to get caught up with some of the chores I'd let slide while I'm going so much.

I've got my laundy caught up and some cleaning done. I still have more to do but I'm hoping to be home the rest of the week except for tomorrow. That's when we go to check on the booth and we're going to check on my MIL's house. Someone tore a door off a shed and took some items. The thing about it is one of the items was an old tiller that doesn't work. I guess they took it to a salvage yard to sell it. Shame, Shame, Shame! There's really nothing there worth anything much. I can't understand why people steal.

For dinner we had baked pork chops, potato salad and green beans.

I hope you all are doing alright. I'm thinking of you and remembering you in prayer. May God bless and comfort each one of you.

Post by backtotheland Wed Dec 12, 2012 8:27 pm

Good Morning all. Things have started out a lot better this week thank goodness. Things have seemed to quit down with my daughter and her ex, for the time being. My dgd was sick on Monday and I had to go pick her up at school. She has a viral throat infection. I think it is from postnasal drip going down the back of her throat. She's doing a little bit better. It's hard when they are in school (just one more reason to homeschool) but there's not much one can do about it.

I still haven't even baked one cookie. I'm going to have to wait until the week-end before Christmas because I just don't have any room in my freezer. I'm trying to figure out where I could put a small chest freezer. I'm thinking about getting one in February. I really don't like them but I do like to stock up on food and some of it is frozen.

I made a meatloaf on Monday night for supper and had some mashed potatoes and corn. For desert I had frozen strawberry yogurt. Another good reason to have a freezer would be I could make up some homemade TV dinners with the leftovers and not have to eat the same thing for a week. It's that cooking for one thing that gets me.

Hope everyone is enjoying the season and may God Bless You All.

I am starting a water catchment system, and that is what I am doing. gosh, it is getting more expensive all the time, but I am learning, I think I have all the parts to do one building now. just waiting for the gutter wedges to put my gutters on. my fasha boards are angled to the inside so need them to make my gutters flush. it does not rain much hear. but hopefully, I can figure it all out to catch water to water my garden when my well goes out. Orrrrr what ever. I have a winter garden started, and thankfully, it don't kneed much water or weed control. I am so behind in xmas projects. I have to get busy making some ornaments for every one. and I so miss my wood shop, so that will be healing to get in there.
my thoughts go out to you Sonshine. hope you get all better.

Things have been ok here. I can't complain, in fact I am blessed.
We have almost all the Christmas done. We never go overboard, did that in the past and learned, but I only have a couple more things to get.
We have a new grandson. Oliver Louis Curtis was born November 28. He weighed 6 lb. 12 oz. 18" long and he has a big sister Lainey. I don't know if I've mentioned Lainey on here, I think I have, but she is waiting on a small intestine transplant. She is 15 months old now and my daughter has her hands full!
We will be leaving Christmas day to go to Virginia to my daughter's. My dad, my sister, me & Joe are going. My step-son is staying with his mom and my son (18) is staying home. He has to work and is looking forward to a week by himself. Smile I'm not so sure I'm looking forward to him having a week by himself.
Tonight Joe has a meeting at the church so I'm not sure what's for supper. Maybe leftovers.

Sorry I haven't been on much lately. Been trying to finish up some Christmas projects. Today my neighbor took me out to do a little Christmas shopping for Joe. I'm hoping to do a bit of baking tomorrow. For supper we had chili.

I hope all of you are doing well. I'm actually feeling better this fall than I have in several years. No upper respritory crud so far and I hope it stays that way.

William is having a lot of pain in his right knee. The doctor told him that he has arthritis in his knee and then today he told him that his ligament is inflamed. William can't take anything to fight the inflammation because he's taking Coumadin.

We are in the process of trying to get all the gifts wrapped and under the tree. The way things look we will have all our children and all our grands here for Christmas morning breakfast. All except the daughter-in-law. She has to work. It's hard to believe that Walgreens doesn't close for Christmas Day. She was off last Christmas so it's her turn to work this one.

For dinner we had tomato and rice soup. It's been years since I made this soup. It turned out pretty good. Of course I love rice any way it's cooked.

Post by backtotheland Fri Dec 21, 2012 8:30 pm

Hello everybody. I've been busy with work and trying to get Christmas gifts finished. I seem to be having an issue knitting mittens for the kids. Bella's came out to big because her mother told me to go up a size and then on top of that I had to make two pairs because I knitted one with a white tip and one plain. I did the same thing with Lee's mittens, only his are the right size, and I had to take his hat out three times and change patterns. Oh well, I'll have everything knitted by Christmas, which is a whole different thing for me. Usually I'm wrapping something on needles and telling them to give it back. Tonight my oldest daughter and I are going out to do the rest of the shopping.

I had a horrible ride home from work last night. It was snowing like crazy and I was scared to death but I made it, in 45 minutes. It usually takes me 30 at most. But, that was the last ride I'll have to make like that. They are finally getting me set up at home today. The weather is supposed to be crappy but it is supposed to be just rain. I just hope it stays rain until I'm home tonight from shopping.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day and if I don't get back here have a wonderful Christmas.

We spent the day delivering some Christmas gifts to neighbors. Only neighbor we have left to give to are coming over for Christmas dinner, so they'll get there's then. A couple of Ty's friends are spending the night tonight. Tomorrow I'll help them make and decorate some sugar cookies and we'll make a gingerbread house. The cookies they make they'll be taking home, since their mom doesn't bake. I'm also planning on helping them each make an ornament. I try to do this every year and the boys really seem to enjoy it, so do I. Smile

Sonshine, sound like a wonderful thing to do. I miss having little ones around to do things like that with. I was supposed to have the grandkids yesterday but their father took them overnight on Friday so my daughter and I could go Christmas shopping and decided to keep them on Saturday. I don't know if I'm going to have them today or not because he's taking them this morning too. Whether I have them or not I'll be going to Syracuse to my son's for his 31st birthday. The weather sure is different than the day I went into the hospital - we were having a horrible snow storm. I thought we were going to get one yesterday but they got it up in Syracuse instead. My youngest wanted a white Christmas and she may get her wish from the forecast. It is always nice to have a light snow falling when I leave Church after the Christmas Eve service.

I'm still working on the mittens for my dgs. I don't have any wrapping done and I'm going to end up giving my ddil an IOU for her gift because I didn't get it done and ran out of money. I didn't realize just how expensive things have gotten. I guess that happens when you're used to making everything yourself.

I have to work tomorrow but will be doing it from home thank goodness. Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with their loved ones and friends.

How has your day been and what's for dinner................... - Page 20 Empty Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................

Post by backtotheland Wed Dec 26, 2012 8:38 pm

We went to Syracuse on the 23rd for James's birthdayd had a ball. We didn't get to leave until after three because Cameron messed around and never told Val he wasn't taking the kids until after one. We got there, had a wonderful dinner and a great time anyway. Val couldn't go because she had to work.

I had to work on Christmas Eve AND run out to pick up something I had fogotten on Friday night when Val and I were out which worked out well because I had to take the keyboard and mouse back to the hospital and take the one that was on the desk I was sitting at. Why the IS guys couldn't have just gotten that one is beyond me but I will never understand the inner workings of UHS. No matter, I'm working from home now and it looks like the timing is perfect with this storm coming.

Christmas day was as stressful as ever but we got through it. We went to Val's this year but she had to leave at 2:45 to deliver the kids to their fater and she had to work at four so because we got started later than we had planned Lex, Andrew, James, Nina, Nina's Mom and I ended up staying at Val's until 4:15 and then they went back to Syracuse and I followed Lex and Andrew back to his Mom's for their family Christmas party. The only mishap was that when I was taking some stuff to the car to go to Val's I had a really nasty fall in the yard. I slipped and came down on my right side really hard. The worst that came out of it is that I have a nasty black and blue mark but the food survived just fine, thank goodness.

Today Val has to work and the daycare is closed so she is bringing the kids out to spend the day with me. It will be fun as they haven't seen Grandma's new house yet. I just hope if it starts snowing she gets back here to get them. Since they are going to be here today I don't expect much will get done but there isn't much to do now anyway except start planning on what to make everyone for next Christmas.

Stay safe and warm everyone, this looks like a bad one. I checked the radar this morning and it looks like this storm spans a pretty big area. Winter is here I guess.

Right now, we have the rain from the storm, but it's nasty out there. I got completely chilled taking care of the horses this morning. Only 1 of them gets 2 feedings a day, and he got it waaaaay early! Then, I had to run some errands B4 I could come home. I'm now hiding inside and have no reason to go outside again until tomorrow. Then, Saturday, they're calling for another system to move thru, and this one could bring some snow w/it.

I'm getting tired of all the rain. The farm where I have my horses has a clay soil, so it doesn't drain well. I have a farmer holding 8 RBs of hay for me, but can't get it delivered because of where he'd need to drive on the farm to drop it off-he'd get stuck! I've been trying to get it all in since October. But, it looks like next week it will FINALLY dry up, so I should be able to get it then.

Hope everyone has been having a good week. We did get the snow storm that was predicted but didn't get as much as they said we would. We got about six inches. We are under a winter weather advisory today until nine tonight. When I got up it was snowing lightly and then picked up a little but has stopped now. I haven't been anywhere since Christmas and when I go to Church tomorrow I will ride with my friend Michelle and her husband so my car won't move until Thursday morning when I go out to run errands.

Not really doing too much other than cleaning and working. I'm off until Monday and then off again until Thursday.

Last night for supper I fried two pieces of white fish in the new ceramic lined frying pan my son and daughter-in-law got for me. My son really wasn't so sure about it because I have used cast iron only for years but I gave it a try and you know what, it worked wonderful. Clean-up was a breeze. I still like my cast iron a little better though.

I found a site called The Homestead Store while looking for a clothes drying rack. When I first put it in I found one in Waco, Texas but that wasn't the one, although they are a lot like Lehmans. So I tried again and found

another one located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and that is where the clothes drying rack was. What a wonderful site. They have a forum very much like this one and also the family that makes the drying racks has a blog. I read one of the entries and it was so nice.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week-end. I'm going to hunker down, watch the snow and cooking shows.

I'll have to look into that. Bucks County isn't that far from me.

We were supposed to start w/snow, then have it change to rain. We got all rain.

We've been getting a lot of rain here. It's made it very difficult to get anything done. I had hoped to have all my wood for the winter down last spring, but because of the leg operation I had last January, I didn't get it done. So, I'm trying to get it done now. I have permission to take out anything dead in the woods right next door! The woods were sold this year, and the new owner is letting me take wood in exchange for keeping an eye on it for him. So, I went yesterday and got enough wood to last for over a week. It's supposed to be dry all next week, so I'm hoping I can get in there everyday and cut some.

I went to my parents for dinner tonight. My sister was down from Connecticut, and my brother was here from Germany. My other brother lives in the area and he was there. I don't know when the last time was that the 4 of us were together. My dad had some pics on his computer from when we were growing up. One pic, if I hadn't known it was me, I would have thought was my daughter! All in all, it was a good visit.

I hope everyone is doing well. We are alright except for William having trouble with his right knee. The doc told him he has arthritis in the knee and an inflamed ligament also. He's going for physical therapy three days a week. It hasn't helped too much yet. But he's only been three times so far.

We had a great Christmas with our children. We were blessed to have all four of our children here along with all six grandchildren. Our three sons-in-law were here but our daughter-in-law had to work. She works at Walgreens and they were opened from 9 am - 6 pm and she said they were very busy.

It's cold here. Much colder than usual this time of the year. The temp is supposed to be down to 23 tonight. So much for living in the south. LOL

We are staying busy. As busy as we can with all the rain we've had lately. We can't get out and paint and right now we don't have room in the storage building to paint. We are going to have to move something because we have to get some new items ready to go to Meridian and on January 19th we're supposed to open another booth. This one is in Union which is about 15 miles from where we live.

I hope you all have a blessed Sunday.

It still snowing here, not heavily though. Today the winds are supposed to pick up. It's 19 degrees right now and I think that is the coldest its been so far this winter. It's not supposed to get up above the low 20's today with wind gusts up to about 30 mph. I don't know if they will have services today as most of the congregation, including me, are older folks.

I didn't do much yesterday except knit, watch cooking shows and tried to bake molasses cookies. The dough was way too soft so I managed to get it into rolls and put it in the fridge and may bake them off today or tomorrow. I'd never done cookies like that before but did a recipe for sugar cookies just before Christmas that way and enjoyed it so I'm making the molasses cookies that way.

Still waiting for my seed catalog from Baker's Creek. I may send another request because I'm not sure mine went through.

Mississippi, I hope William's knee improves soon.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Thank you Backtotheland.
It's cold here today too. When I got up the temp was 24 with a windchill of 19. BRRRRR. LOL It's beautiful day though. The skies are the clearest blue you can imagine. I don't see even one of the fluffy clouds.

We're planning for company New Year Day for dinner. I'm planning to make Blackeyed Pea Chili, regular chili, cole slaw, cornbread and a dessert. Not sure what yet. I've thought about pecan pie but after a heavy meal I don't know if I want pecan pie. I may make one of the yogurt, cool whip and jello pies in a graham cracker crust. Our guest likes these. They're light and refreshing especially the lime or lemon ones.

For dinner tonight I want to make fried ham, sweet potato cakes and poached eggs. Easy I hope good. LOL

I hope everyone is doing well and you all will have a great week ahead.

Post by 12acrehome Mon Dec 31, 2012 12:08 pm

not a good way to end a year...

92 yr old grandfather fell, hit his head on a brick hearth, huge gaping gash in the top and back of his head, hospitalized, Dad, 71, very sick, fever 103.2, taking meds, refuses to go back to ER, Mom , 72, at her wits end, down in her back with arthritis, and fibromyalga (sp-?)...
My siblings? well sis lives out of state and was in for the holidays, trying to take over (not happening Wink ) and my brother is just not dealing well with the situation. He checked on my grandfather, saw him on couch, assumed he was sleeping...mom found him still on couch bleeding badly...brother dealing with "if only I had..." syndrome.

prayers greatly appreciated.

supper was roast beef, gravy and mashed potatoes (all prepped ahead and frozen for quick meal)
