It's that time of year again
seed catalogs arriving daily. So are you planning to try anything different in your garden next year?

Re: It's that time of year again
Haven't decided yet, probably not. I have stuff I wanted to try last year, and didn't really get my garden going. So, I'll probably just do this year what I'd planned to do last year.

Re: It's that time of year again
I'm planning to revamp my garden plans this year. I am cutting back on the tomatoes and will plant more things that store longer like cabbages and root crops.
Hopefully I can get into a routine and actually harvest and eat what I grow this year. With all the nonsense this year with my dh's children I didn't get to enjoy much of my garden produce.

Re: It's that time of year again
I am hoping to add another raised bed to the set up this season and to make at least one screen cloche. Basically a removable hoop house covered with netting sized to put over the raised bed and keep those darned chickens and cabbage loopers out. We shall see.
Re: It's that time of year again
I need to make a screen for my beds too, I lost all my cabbage to the loopers again this year.

I tried to sic the Kid on my loopers and it actually worked to a degree. I let him "collect" those cute little green caterpillars in his bug barn.
Re: It's that time of year again
That's one way to do it.

I think I'm going to splurge and buy a Bay Laurel plant this year, I'm tired of buying bay leaves at the store.

Re: It's that time of year again
Will they grow in your zone? I was thinking that they need warmer temps in winter?
Re: It's that time of year again
I'm not sure but if I put in a pot then I can always bring it inside for the winter.

Re: It's that time of year again
Good idea! I have a lime tree that comes in for the winter here. Of course I do get a bit of complaining when it comes time to move the pot each year.
Re: It's that time of year again
I am redoing the drainage and have added wood chip mulch to over winter with. Step one towards reducing weeds and increasing yields.
Re: It's that time of year again
Just keep piling on those wood chips and you will have a very fertile garden patch.
Re: It's that time of year again
I still have some of my monster pile in the driveway. I probably have enough to finish the flower garden area.

Even if we lived closer I would rent one. We have so much it could wear yours out!
