All corn varieties are outcrossing, and wind pollinated, all will readily cross with any other corn varieties. Pollen is produced by the tassel at the top of the corn stalk. Wind carries the pollen to the green silk of the immature ears on other corn stalks. When successfully pollinated the silk turns brown and dries out. If not pollinated the ear will not produce kernels.

The best video explaining how to hand pollinate corn I have found (which is far beyond what I can describe)
