I am not so far ahead as you might think... can't say more it would be a hint
Re: Anything Homemade Swap
I'm not doing much right now but thinking. I just don't have any spare time. I'm working from 8:30 until 4:00, and still have to do all the housework, farm and yard work. I stopped working this evening at around 7:30.

We've got the garden to tend as fast as we pull them the weeds are back. It's been raining so much here we're about ready to build an ark! I guess that would work as a homemade gift and Rohn can use it to fish when we're done with it...LOL

Re: Anything Homemade Swap
ahh stock should be delivered Monday, then it's just a matter of laying out the patterns, cutting the materials, (top secret steps three through seven) and fastening every thing together (assuming I don't get frustrated with steps 4 and 5)
Re: Anything Homemade Swap
That fantastic Keith, have patience and it will all come together smoothly.
The supplies for most of my projects won't be here until Wednesday. I ordered some stuff for the swap and some stuff for projects I'm making as gifts for my family.

Re: Anything Homemade Swap
I'm pretty excited. I just opened my Etsy shop & also a Facebook page where I'm showing pics of what I sell.
I got an order for a full-size rag quilt already, did some giveaways to raise support for my page & I'm getting ideas for not only this swap but also kids Christmas gifts. Hubby requested a Queen size rag quilt for our bed.

Re: Anything Homemade Swap
would you be willing to post a link to your shop in our barter forum? I'd like to see that area become a show case for the talents that everyone here has
Re: Anything Homemade Swap
Sure, I can do that. I don't have much in the shop yet but I will be adding to it as I finish projects.

Supplies arrived...pattern needs a tad bit more tweaking, and colors are a bit off compared to the pictures on line and in the printed catalog...

Re: Anything Homemade Swap
I've been working on a few items. I got one of dizzy's almost done and have started on one for kerrig. I have a few things I'll be making for each of these wonderful ladies. Nothing fancy, but hope they will enjoy them.
Re: Anything Homemade Swap
I just added pictures of the baby rag quilt to my Etsy shop.
This quilt isn't actually for sale, it's to show what they will look like. This one I am taking to the Illinois Gastroschisis Awareness Day in Chicago on the 27th to raffle off at the silent auction.

Re: Anything Homemade Swap
Blacksmithing is quite interesting but something I have never tried. The closest I ever came to it was probably when I made a couple springs for a shoulder holster. I took a piece of banding and heated it with a torch until it was cherry red then bent it to the shape I needed and plunged it into water. It made the banding very springy. I then sewed it into the holster and used it instead of lacing or stitching to hold my gin in. That way my gun could be drawn from the shoulder holster down and out instead of up and out. I am not sure if this makes sense but it worked fine. I'm not even sure if that is classed as a simple form of blacksmithing either.
I have enjoyed watching a blacksmith at work doing their amazing work on metal.

Re: Anything Homemade Swap
I've had the pleasure of watching a blacksmith, and a bladesmith, both are very talented. So strictly speaking, forming a spring from a piece of scrap metal and re-hardening it with success is a part of blacksmithing. I have heated parts and straightened out bends, I have oil quenched steel, and annealed brass...I am not a blacksmith. Understanding how metal grains align as the steel or iron moves under the hammer face is lost on me.
I have seen pictures of a very small gas forge that was made from a single soft firebrick and a small propane torch.
