Apple Cigar Empty Apple Cigar

Post by Rohn Fri Jan 20, 2012 10:10 am

No I'm not taking up smoking or even advocating the habit. I just finished a pen and the kit I used is named "Cigar."
The wood I used is apple wood that I collected a few years ago when pruning a few apple trees. Apple wood is fun to work with as it is good and hard and helps to get a good smooth finish. All four of the pictures are the same pen, just different lighting.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice! I like the stain you used, it really brings out the grain on the pen.

There is actually no stain on the wood just a clear linseed oil finish. The apple wood has a nice grain.
Thanks for the nice comment.

I didn't realize apple wood was that dark, but it sure is pretty.

Sonshine,
Thanks for the nice comment.
Wood is strange in some pieces it may be lighter or darker than another piece of the same kind. Even from the same tree you may find pieces that are different. I guess the Creator enjoys variety and that is why nothing is exactly the same. Smile
