So excited I am getting a new goat
Hubby called me today with a giant suprise. He is buying me a boar goat. It is supposed to be a Nubian. My female goat is half boer and half milk. I will have a mixed up line of goats but I am so happy to have goats again. Right now I am using them for cleaning up around here. We let alot of the property over grow this year since we wanted our rabbit population to expand. Now I need it cleaned up so we can get the fencing fixed at the barn. This on is supposed to be tamed and has been around young kids all of its life. We are also very blessed it is on our road up the hill from the house. I will probably go get it in my car again.
I will post pics as soon as I get him home. I think Wesley is going to name him Oreo. He is black and white.

Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
Congratulations! Can't wait to see the pictures. You said your doe was half boer and half milk? I know that boer goats are meat goats, but have never heard of a milk goat. Are the boar goats the ones without ears? Well, they have ears, but you know what I mean. I've thought about getting some nubians because I like their floppy ears, but I figure it's best for me to stick with my little Nigerian Dwarfs, they're small enough that I can handle them.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
My hubby said she was a milk goat. I have no idea what breed that would be. She has short stubby ears. And horns. I have seen milk goats but they are bigger than our normal goats.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
I don't think there is a breed called "milk goat", but there are several breeds listed as dairy goats. That's why I was asking.

Congrats on your new family addition!

Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
When we got him home Hubby found out he had been fixed. But he is still a great addition to the family and a great mobile mowing machine. He took to that task right away.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
This is Pumpkin. She barley has ears. She has some kind of milk breed in her. She is much taller than my other goats that I have had in the past. She is theone that thinks she is a dog. She listenst to the doors open and close in the house and knows when we are out side and hollars for us.

Those are some cute goats you've got there Amy. Sorry to hear your new guy was fixed but at least he can do the mowing for you.

Patrice that is what I told hubby. I am going to start getting goats to mow the lawn with since I keep tearing up the riding lawn mowers. lol I got a barn and hay for them this winter. Just think they fertilize along with mowing.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
The best of both worlds, mow and fertilize with doing the actual work, gotta love it. LOL Just think you won't have to pay for gasoline any more either.

Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
You have some nice little goats there. Your buck looks a bit like our Marshmellow. I love the light coloring.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
Is there a way to tell if a goat has nervous goat in him. I do not know if the new goat has some in him or he has some leg problems. He has had some cuts on his legs from crawling under a house trailer at some point but they were taken care of and healed. (the guy we got him from told us about them) but he shakes in the back and sits alot. I was wondering if I needed to have him checked out but hubby said he thinks he has some nervouse goat in him.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
Not sure what nervous goat is, but that shaking and sitting down alot is something I would get checked out. If he has something that is contagious, you don't want your doe to get it too.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
We have them seperated right now. Nervous goats are the ones that faint. Some people call them fainting goats. They actually pass out when they get scared.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
Ok, I know what fainting goats are. As far as I know though, they don't shake, but their legs lock up when they get startled, which causes them to fall over.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
The good news on Oreo is that he just has weak leg muscles due to the cuts he had a while back. We were told that with time they will get stronger. We are babying him and he is doing better. He loves it when the kids come out to see him and sits down for his love and petting. And he is doing a great job with the weeds.
Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
That's great to hear Amy! I'm glad it isn't something too serious and that Oreo will recover in time.

Re: So excited I am getting a new goat
I'm so glad that Oreo is going to be ok and that you had him checked out. Goats can be so sweet. The kids in our neighborhood love coming over and petting our goats.
