Online garden journal idea and rules
So taking from the idea of the personal journals in the members only section. I talked with Kieth, and he said he like the idea of a garden only journal to be a more focused log of our gardens. So if anyone wants to start their own that would be great. I think he is going to make them "sticky" in the garden/orchard section of the forum. Unlike the personal journals these will remain public so members and nonmembers can see them.
This post will be just for the general idea, and to make and set rules and guidelines for the journals. I know all of us that have been around for a while do not need rules, but these will be public, and possible something that will bring in new members so I thought it would be good to have a point of reference and a good place to discuss the journals without cluttering up anyone's garden journal.
THESE RULES ARE JUST MY INITIAL IDEA TO GET US STARTED, AND CAN/WILL CHANGE BASED ON DISCUSSION IN THIS THREAD WITH OUR MEMBERS. I AM NOT A MOD AND I HAVE NO AUTHORITY TO SET RULES. THESE ARE JUST SUGGESTED GUIDELINES THAT I FEEL WILL MAKE THESE JOURNALS RUN MORE SMOOTHLY!
Rules:
1: ALL normal forum rules apply (of course.)
2: As these are meant as journals/ points of reference please stay on topic as much as possible. Any discussion about the use of or rules of the journals should be done in this thread and not on any one person's journal.
3: You can put anything you want in your journal as long as it has to do with gardening/orcharding. The only thing we ask is please remember that these are meant as a point of reference for you and others. So please share what works what doesn't and make sure the information is as accurate as possible.
4: Just as a standard please put your hardness zone and any other particular information pertaining to your garden in your fist post. This will save you from having to answer the same question multiple times, and will set a standard so everyone will know where to look for that information.

Re: Online garden journal idea and rules
My journal will be in another thread. This thread is just for discussing the rules and idea of online garden journals.
Re: Online garden journal idea and rules
As the journal grows, a reminder of the hardiness zone may need to be re-posted.
I would also like to see equipment reviews. Many, if not all of us, are on tight budgets and don't want to waste money on what simply is a poorly designed product, or one that is over priced for what it does...I'd include lawn mowers in these reviews, simply because there is some real junk out there.

Good idea guys and I'll probably start a journal once I can find my garden again. It's currently buried under a foot and a half of snow.

Might want to also post what your typical weather is like as well as your soil.

Re: Online garden journal idea and rules
I posted that it is OK for others to post in my journal. I didn't know if everyone would want other posting in their journals or not.
How do you guys feel about it? I don't think the post should stray much off topic, but I think questions and comments about the journal owners garden should be fine.
If there is mixed feelings about it we could make the rule that if you have a garden journal you need to put whether or not you want others to post in it somewhere in the first post.
Whatever you guys think, I am not sure how online journals normally work. My we should just have some clarification, if only for the sake of keeping me for over thinking things like I normally do.
God bless,
Chad
