A handicap ramp for our aging dogs 10917312_1076162735742672_6401177837607801581_n

This afternoon I built a ramp for my 13 year old buddy "Oreo". This past year he has developed paralysis in his back left leg. The steps are impossible for him to navigate these days. He uses the front ramp without issue, but wants to spend time in the pen with the others. The ramp is 36 inches tall, and 12 feet long. Built from treated 2 x 4's and treated 1/2 inch plywood. One sheet of plywood, with a 2 feet by 4 feet section left over, and 3 12' 2 x 4's plus a 24 inch section from a fourth 2 x 4 are all the wood that was needed. Add 1/2 of a box of 2 1/2 inch screws to hold it together and there you have it.

And I'm sure it was much cheaper to do it yourself than it would have been if you had had to pay someone. It looks good.

Thanks Deb, yes much cheaper. One sheet of treated 1/2 inch plywood, and three treated 2 x 4's was only about 35 dollars. The time involved was only about 2 hours, including gathering the materials, and figuring the angle of the runners.

Oh yeah, sides and carpet coming soon.

Thanks FF, we may over do it a bit, but we both believe our dogs deserve the best we can do for them. (Just as anyone would for a child)

Looks good and I'm sure he'll appreciate it so he can be outside with the rest of the crew. Wink
