Making this year's gift. Empty Making this year's gift.

This year, making a homemade gift was more of a challenge than I was expecting. I'll admit to thinking about sending one of my kids instead-after all, they're homemade. But I didn't.

While I have done various types of crafts, the 3 things I'm the best at are cross stitch, plastic canvas and latch hook rugs. MM gave me a few suggestions for things that she'd like, so I got started looking for what I needed.

First off, I wanted to make some type of ornament. I found a really neat booklet w/some cross stitch patterns in it. And, I came up w/what I hope is a good idea for making them as ornaments. So, I picked a pattern to make, got what I needed and took it w/me to the allergists office. I do not know if it was the lighting in there, or the fact that I need new glasses. But, I couldn't see good enough to do it easily. I tried again a couple of weeks later using different glasses, but still w/no luck. So, that was out.

To be continued.

OK, next chapter.

Next thing I decided to try and make was something w/plastic canvas. MM had told me something that she'd like. Only problem being, I had never made one. So, I tried to find a pattern online, or at least some dimensions. No luck. So, I started checking all the craft stores. Again, no luck. So that was out. So, I still needed to come up w/a different gift. I had an idea as to what I could make, but wasn't quite set up for it.

To be continued.....

Been busy, so I haven't posted to it.

MM said she liked roosters. So, I decided to make a latch hook rug. I didn't want to buy a kit-they're expensive. I have no problem w/cutting my own yarn. There are sites on line where you can put in a picture, and it will make up a chart and tell you what you need. So, I started looking for a picture of a rooster that I liked. Someone posted a pic of a very pretty rooster on another site. When I told them I liked it, and that I was going to steal the pic, they were nice enough to e-mail me not only that pic, but a couple of others of the same rooster! I figured out which one I liked the best, one of him sitting top of a wooden fence. So, I just needed to submit the pic, and print up the chart.

That brought me to my next problem. I needed a color cartridge to do that, and I couldn't find one for my printer. I don't know how many stores I looked in, no luck. So I told hubby when he was out one day. He couldn't find one either, so he looked it up on line. It would have cost $40.00 for the cartridge and he didn't want to spend that kind of money since my printer is old. At that point in time, I didn't know what I was going to do.

To be continued.....
