how to build a wood box

how to build a wood box
This should be simple enough, figure out what size box you need, cut the bottom, sides and ends, and fasten them together...well there seems to be no end to how to accomplish this simple procedure...here are four methods, and I will post the results of a fifth method (circa 1950's) later.
This is simple and easy, but the strength of the box depends on the fasteners and strength of the wood used

This design is more complicated to build, but is very durable. The strength of this is determined by only the strength of the wood

An even more complicated build, with material that is known to fall apart if it gets wet. I never recommend particle board for anything. The design is sound though, and gluing techniques are demonstrated very well.

This last one is also a sound design, but here the material chosen is too thin to be strong enough to use for much more than decoration.

When there is enough light, I will post a pic of a box I retrieved from my grandfather's farm. I found it in the original house, now used for storage. The box was built by my grandfather in the 40's or 50's when he was just share cropping this ground.
