Re: I'm about to give up
If I say "nap time" she'll practically knock me over to get into the bedroom first.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kills small animals
This might work good for small animals, but it has burned and killed a cat and a duck. Nothing like grandkids finding this stuff. Good thing I removed it before any of the grandkids got into it.

***Larry did something wrong for it to have killed a cat or a duck, but the potential is there***
My old (only a couple years old) fence charger died. I had left it plugged in for long periods and I think that hastened its demise with wire groundings. They seem to only last 2 or 3 years, so it was time to buy another.
My dogs had gone on a digging rampage in the garden / flower beds and I ran wire around the beds, but with the old charger dead, they would test the wire. One dog would bite the wire. After plugging the charger only twice and each time for just a couple of minutes, the dog found that the wire bites back. Now she stays 5 foot away from the wire, but digs in the middle of the back yard.
more typical results...a 5 star rating

Simple, inexpensive, and an effective deterrent to garden damaging animals! Haaah, I win! Sick and tired of having animals chew up my vegetable garden and wrecking my passion!
in fact most of the ratings are 5 star...
$10.00 fence wire (12 ga one spool)
$10.00 insulators
$30.00 fence charger
______
$50.00 sub total
add shipping and handling, taxes, and fence posts, or poles and you will be right around 100 bucks. These days that can be hard to free up from a fixed budget.
mouse traps and fishing line, and some cap gun caps can make scare traps for around 10 bucks...not quite as effective, but will scare most critters enough to cause them to leave.
Re: I'm about to give up
That mouse trap idea looks more like something our budget can handle right now. I'm just shocked the wood pallets didn't keep the bobcats away. Dh completely rebuilt the pen with wood pallets on all 4 sides, then he covered the entire top and sides with wire. He even nailed up some boards over some of the wider spaces between the slats. I KNOW this would have kept out any coyotes or hawks, and we were sure it was predator proof. These bobcats must have been pretty hungry.

Re: I'm about to give up
Maybe you could suggest to your dh to nail a few extra boards going in the opposite direction OVER the ends of the wire to help keep it attached to the pallets. If your boards are going vertical then nail some horizontal, making a sandwich with the wire inside.

Re: I'm about to give up
Bobcats ARE cats. All of them have that "play with my food" thing going on. It probably wouldn't matter what pen they were in they would have tried to get it open and they are strong.
