tick question Empty tick question

Post by mountainmama Sat Jun 23, 2012 7:51 am

My dd pulled a tick off our dog's lip today, but only managed to get the bottom of the tick, not the head. We tried putting Vaseline on it to "smother" the tick out, but that didn't work. Any ideas how we can get the head out? It seems to be hurting the dog.

I'm not sure how you would get it out after the head's been pulled off inside. My first thought would be to call a vet, or wait for it to fester, but that would probably cause the dog even more pain. Sorry.

can't help here, but in the future if the tick is twisted out instead of just pulled, it is less likely to leave the head.

The last tick that left its head in one of our dogs was allowed to fester for a couple days, then it rolled out like a pimple.

Here is one way you can get a tick off your animals without breaking them off.

Hope this helps for future ticks. Very Happy
