Orchard Project
The Plan:
Locate a place that could be home to a small family orchard, clean it up, and begin soil preparations. The Orchard is to be home to Pear, Apple, Plum, filbert, english walnuts, and grapes.
I located the place where soil is well drained, and there is plenty of air flow, a lower spot that would delay budding until the risk of frost had passed.
As you can see I had my work cut out for me. Out came the brush Scythe, the Axe, and the Machette. After a few hours of work...
Still had some work to do, this was done in Dec 2011. I have done more clearing since, and will post more pic's and updates as we go.
Yesterday I was given 6 Damson Plum trees that we decided to put in the front yard, since we are lacking a wind break as well as shade on that side of the house.

Re: Orchard Project
A very good idea about the windbreak.
And how wonderful it will be, one day, to have an orchard too.

Re: Orchard Project
Looks and sounds good Keith. I'll be looking forward to more posts and pictures as this project progresses. I love it. Many times I have wished for my own place where I could develop it as you are doing. Someday perhaps I will be able to.

Re: Orchard Project
We prayed and searched for the perfect place for us for years (20+) finally the Lord led us here, be patient all things come in his time. In the meantime I will gladly share what I do here, the successes and failures, as both are learning opportunities
