Eggs Incubating Empty Eggs Incubating

Post by Mississippi Momma Mon Mar 12, 2012 4:11 am

We have two incubators going. One has forty one chicken eggs in it. Six Buttercup eggs and the rest are Easter Eggers and Easter Eggers/Buttercup mix. We're going to try to sell some of them but if we don't our freezers should be full. Smile

The other incubator has five goose eggs, four turkey eggs and twenty-six Khaki Campbell duck eggs. I would like to keep the turkeys and sell the rest of them. If we don't have any luck selling our new birds then we will be eating a lot of poultry. LOL

William has finished the chicken yard and the birds are sure enjoying it. We let the ducks, geese and the chickens out to roam around in the pen every morning. We trimmed the guineas' wings but they still fly so guess I need to trim them some more. I'd love to let the turkeys out but I'm so afraid they'll fly out.

William is working on a larger pen for the turkeys. When we get them moved we will break up the flock of Easter Eggers and put part of them into the old turkey pen.

Good luck on hatching out your babies. Smile I've never tried incubating them. As far as having a lot of poultry to eat, there's so many ways you can fix poultry that that wouldn't be a bad thing. Smile

I'd love to have a hen setting on eggs but we don't have any that even show an appearance of going broody. I bought game hens just for this purpose but neither of them have offered to go broody. Wish I had some silkies. They're great little brooders and mommas.

Your right about how many ways poultry can be cooked. We eat more chicken than anything else.

The only breeds I know anything about are RIR's and Buffs. My Buffs seem pretty good at going broody.
