US Intel Chief: Iran Ready to Strike America In Terror Attacks

The U.S. intelligence community believes that Iran is prepared to launch terrorist attacks inside the United States in response to perceived threats from America and its allies, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the Senate Tuesday morning in an open hearing.

In prepared testimony given to the U.S. Select Committee on Intelligence, Clapper stated than an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the United States shows a shift in Tehran’s strategy towards a willingness to plot and conduct attacks within the U.S.

Director Clapper said, according to the Washington Post, that Iran’s disrupted alleged assassination plot:


“shows that some Iranian officials — probably including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei — have changed their calculus and are now more willing to conduct an attack in the United States in response to real or perceived U.S. actions that threaten the regime.”

Clapper added that “We are also concerned about Iranian plotting against U.S. or allied interests overseas.”

The spy chief’s concerns come amidst increased saber rattling from Iran with regard to the Strait of Hormuz, and tightening U.S. sanctions aimed at curbing the Iranian nuclear program.

Clapper’s testimony regarding the threat from Iran was delivered as part of the U.S. intelligence community’s annual overview of the primary national security challenges facing the United States. His testimony also singled out cyber-related threats, and the weakened but persistent threat Al Qaeda and its affiliates pose to the U.S.

There was a time, not that long ago, that when a US Warship sailed into the gulf region Iran, Iraq, and the all of the rest cowared and trembled in fear. I was there. The summer of 1987 when the USS Stark (FFG 28 if I remember correctly) was hit with two missles seemed to be when they got bolder.

Today with this coward and cheat in charge of the worlds last super power nation we are the ones who are becoming scared of the region. Yes I believe the obama administration (lower case intentional) will just continue to mess things up.

I just hope that things don't completely fall apart before Joe retires. The Air force is not what it use to be.

Me too. A young family member joined the Navy recently, and the reports I am hearing about todays Navy are disturbing. It does not sound like the battle ready fighting force I knew.

Yeah, they have the entire middle east messed up, but I believe that was done on purpose.

In that region, in my opinion, we should never have turned our back on Israel.

Keith, you're right, we shouldn't have, yet it shouldn't surprise any Christian. the Bible is pretty clear that in the end it will only be God that will stand with Israel.

I still agree with Ron Paul and listening to him in an interview the other night with Greta he made even more sense. Did you get to see it?

He would not abandon Israel. He would pull funding so we can't tell her what to do and if Iran attacked and Israel wanted our help we would go. He also doesn't believe in declaring an act of war and not going in and finishing what we started and bringing our troops home.

Some of what he says I agree with, but (friendly fire) I do not agree with him enough to support him as a candidate for the office of the President. Santorum I like, but I do not believe he will win the nomination. As for Israel, I agree we should not abandon them, if asked. We should not be funding Egypt when they have declared openly that they do not like us and wish to destroy us. In fact I think all US aid should be withheld from our enemies, and our commerce should be limited to only those who like us and are supportive of us, until our debt issues are cleared up. (Since we are directed to take care of our family first, I believe the government should do the same, tend to domestic matters first, and international second)

Dawn, write to Ron Paul and ask him his standing on a Palestinian state and how that will affect Israel.

Well, he is the only one that is willing to cut foriegn aid. There is not one candidate that I totally agree with. I just prefer Ron Paul. I agree with his views more than the others. I don't mind Santorum but for some reason he reminds me of Joel Olsteen and there is something I do not like about that man.

I believe he thinks the Palestinians should be allowed to have a state.
