Cut meat with scissors Empty Cut meat with scissors

Post by Sonshine Mon Jan 09, 2012 8:42 pm

This tip came in an e-news letter today. The funny thing is, I have already been doing this, but never really thought to post it for some reason. When you have some kitchen shears it makes it much easier to cut up meat and it's quicker than doing it with a knife. I started out just using them to cut up bacon to put in pots to season things like beans and greens. You can cut anything from bacon, to chicken, steak and porkchops. I also have shears I use to cut up my herbs and green onions. They work like a charm.

Oh, I do this all the time! So quick and easy. Then I just pop them in the soapy water with the dishes and wash them clean.

I too have been doing this for years. I don't know how I got started doing it but I do it.

well this is the strangest thing I have ever seen or heard of. I worked at a chicken processing plant for a (very very) short time and they used scissors to cut parts of the meat into portion sizes (including the chunks that would become nuggets). I guess I am just a traditionalist, I prefer my knives. By keeping them sharp, and learning how to actually use a knife I believe I can do these chores quicker than with scissors.

I use my knife for most things. Family has bought me all kinds of gadgets to cut and chop, but I'm more comfortable with knife. BUT, for things like cutting bacon into small bits, or cutting a chicken breast into strips, or even chopping up a green onion, it just seems faster to me.

I even use my scissors when I butcher my chickens, turkeys and fish.  Much more control than using a sharp knife.
