The Ducks Are Here!!!!! Empty The Ducks Are Here!!!!!

Post by Mississippi Momma Wed Apr 20, 2011 9:29 pm

I got the call just a little after six this morning. I wasn't expecting them until tomorrow or Friday but that's just o.k. with me. I didn't put them in the outside brooder because we're supposed to have storms coming today and I wanted them protected from the weather. So they are in a large plastic tub.

They're eating and drinking. They're eating like they are starving which they may be. Shocked I have a question though....I know to put a little cider vinegar in water for chicks...Do I need to do it for the ducks also? I can't remember since it's been so long since I ordered baby ducklings. Thanks.

Here you go, Sonshine. Some pictures of the Khaki Campbell ducklings. They'll be grown before I know it. Smile They sure are cute now.

Awwww. So, what all do you do with ducks? Eat eggs? Do you eat the ducks too? I've never eaten duck, so don't have a clue what they would taste like.

Sonshine we eat the duck eggs in bread. You can eat them but they are a greasier version of dark chicken meat. I like it but hubby doesnt and said we werent killing any of ours. I did research on duck eggs and they have two to three times the fat and cholosterol than a duck egg. That is why they make such great bread. lol

William wants to try duck. We had some we were going to butcher but the dogs beat us to it.

I use them for the eggs but they are so entertaining that I could sit and watch them for hours. We buy a kiddie pool and fill it with water for them to play in. They are hilarious to watch.

I sell some of the eggs too.

We've had the Pekin, Blue Swede, Buff Orphs and Khaki Campbell. I like the Khaki Campbell better. They better layers than any of the others we had. Good setters too.

Mississippi Momma My hubby had ours meeting him at the truck when he got home. It was so funny he said they were like little dogs. He always went to feed them first thing even before coming in the house. A coon got ours so this time he is building apen for them with a pool in it.
