Jew Bashing at the U.N.
From a newsletter I recieved called "End of Day"
Jew Bashing At The U.N.
What a disgusting spectacle. For 96 minutes yesterday, Libya’s Muammar Qadhafi delivered an insane tirade to the U.N. General Assembly, blaming Israel for the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the U.S. military for producing flu viruses to help drug companies get rich. Qadhafi also called Obama “my son” and expressed his hope that Obama would be president forever. National Review is reporting that the Obama Administration has notified Congress that the State Department intends to contribute $400,000 of your tax money to foundations run by Qadhafi’s two children.
Qadhafi was scheduled to speak for 15 minutes, but no one at the U.N. had the courage to end the madness and escort him from the podium. That would have been undiplomatic. And yet this is the very body that President Obama thinks can be trusted to restrain despots on the battlefield and prevent Holocaust-denying dictators from obtaining nuclear weapons.
After “Muammar the Mad” left the stage, along came the Iranian Shiite fanatic Mahmoud Ahamdinejad, who accused Israel of trying to dominate the world politically and economically. He accused Israel of “crimes” against defenseless Palestinian women and children, when of course it is radical Palestinians who strap explosives on to their children and use them as human bombs. Ahmadinejad continues his march toward nuclear weapons. The day he obtains them, Israel, America and any other nation that believes in the Judeo/Christian values of Western Civilization will be in danger. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke today and called out the U.N. cowards. Click here to see a brief portion of his remarks.
And what about President Obama? He mentioned Iran and North Korea a couple of times, but mentioned Israel more than a dozen. He called Israeli homes in established Israeli cities “illegitimate.” And he pointedly said the Israeli “occupation that began in 1967” must end. On both points, he sadly parrots the views of Qadhafi and Ahmadinejad. No wonder that for the first time since its founding in 1947, Israelis see a U.S. president as overtly hostile to their security.
Obama’s Biggest Fan: Himself
I have often criticized the liberal media for their love affair with Barack Obama. Whether their distorting the facts in the healthcare bill, or essentially letting Obama takeover their airwaves, as he did this past Sunday, the media are all Obama all the time. However, Dan Gainor, a weekly columnist in the Fox Forum on Fox News, produced a study finding that Big Media is not Barack Obama’s biggest fan. That honor goes to Barack Obama himself.
Gainor says that in 41 speeches this year, not including the disastrous one he gave yesterday at the U.N., Obama used the word “I” or “me” an astonishing 1,200 times. That includes only his 34 weekly addresses and seven major speeches. If we were to count every interview and speech Obama has given since he was inaugurated, the numbers would be off the charts.
Moreover, from his inauguration in January to the sevent-month mark in August, Obama conducted 114 interviews. To put that in perspective, in their first seven months in office, Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton did 37 and 41 interviews respectively. If Obama continues at this rate, he will exceed all the interviews by former presidents combined! The man is truly in love with himself.
I long for the days when the president spoke to the American people about “us,” not about himself. President Reagan would often use “we” in his speeches when talking about the crises the country faced when confronting the Soviet Union and communism. It appears this president thinks the presidency is all about him when it is suppose to be all about America.
Democrats Rushing “Reform”
Here’s a quick thought experiment: Imagine for a moment that our political leaders announced they wanted to implement a fundamental transformation of our society. They plan to create a massive new entitlement program that will cost trillions of dollars, impose hundreds of billions in new taxes, grant the government, especially the IRS, sweeping new powers and revamp approximately 20% of our economy. Which is more important: Getting it done quickly or getting it done right?
The answer is obvious, and I suspect even young children know it is better to get their work done correctly rather than quickly. Unfortunately, the most elementary logic seems to escape elected Democrats these days.
The fact is, the above experiment is exactly what we are confronting in the national debate over healthcare “reform.” And the question about getting it done quickly or correctly is not merely rhetorical. Yesterday, Senate Democrats unbelievably rejected an amendment that would have required a full cost analysis by the Congressional Budget Office and a 72-hour review period before the Finance Committee could hold its final vote on the massive healthcare “reform” bill. The amendment was offered by Kentucky Republican Jim Bunning.
Liberal Republican Olympia Snowe of Maine got it right when she said, “I do believe the American people are rightfully entitled to [know] what exactly we are doing, what we are legislating. Words matter, and so do the numbers. …Time is our ally, not our enemy. People are rightfully concerned in this country [whether] we will get this right.” But Democrats on the Finance Committee disagreed and voted down the Bunning amendment 11-to-12.
Meanwhile, on the other side of Capitol Hill, Republicans are launching an effort to change House rules so that members have 72-hours to review non-emergency legislation before a final House vote. Call it the “Read The Bill” bill. In a curious twist, the bill was actually written by a Democrat but has been blocked in committee. So, Republicans have started a “discharge petition.” If signed by a majority of House members, they can bypass the committee and force Speaker Nancy Pelosi to schedule a floor vote on the bill.
Speaking in favor of the discharge petition, House Republican Leader John Boehner said, “The American people are angry that Speaker Pelosi didn’t allow the public and their elected representatives to read the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ bill or the national energy tax before they were rammed through the House. Congress can, and must, do better.”
I couldn’t agree more. Members of Congress are paid very well by the American people to do the nation’s business. We should demand they do it well and get it done right.
