I am not a cat person, or a dog person, in fact I have never liked the whole concept of having a pet. I have livestock, but that is food. Not an issue until you factor in a wife and two cute little girls, who think we need a "pet" to feed.

We have had a few dogs, but for various reasons they have either died or we had to get rid of them (chicken eaters). So this time I said how about a bunny, so we are getting a house bunny. I have a friend who breeds Lion Heads, and I can likely get one for a trade, so that is what we are going to go with. From what I have read, and what I know from my meat bunnies, it should be easy to house train because rabbits tend to go in the same place all the time anyway. I already picked up a cage, and plan on taking the girls to pick one out this weekend. Once I get it I will post you guy's some pics.

The first thing my wife said when we started talking about it was, "this one is off the menu!"

God bless,
Chad

The one piece of advice I have is to pay the money and get the bunny spayed or neutered.  Once that is done you will have a pet.  Until that is done you will have a problem.House bunnies that remain intact will be a series of false pregnancies, hormone imbalances and will spray and be a general problem.

We had a couple of "house" bunnies in residence at the school I used to work at.  They were both "fixed".  They were wonderful pets with the kids, but they did require watching with cords.  They seem to have a fascination with chewing electric and computer cords.  Just be aware.

How old do they need to be to get them fixed?

Check with your veterinarian.  I think they are about like cats so around 6 to 7 months.

hmm that'd be like me having a pet cow, neat idea for a compromise though.

That was a good compromise, now everyone should be happy. I second the watching the cords, my friend has a house bunny that LOVES ALL CORDS.

Bunnies are easy to litter box train. In fact, I never really trained them to use one, they did it on their own.

And I agree about watching out for the cords. I don't know how many cords DD's bunny chewed up when we let her in the house.
