A couple new pens Empty A couple new pens

Post by Rohn Sun Oct 13, 2013 12:12 am

Here are a couple new pens I completed yesterday.  The turquoise one is for my personal pen.  My old one is several years old and I wanted a new one.  The red one I did for my sweet wife.  These pens are acrylic and shine up with no finish and they stay that way.  I sand them with cloth-backed paper from 220 grit through 600 and then use micro mesh. a cloth backed paper that is very fine, 1500 - 12000 grit and finish up with plastic polish on a rag.

Here is the blue one on the lathe.

Both pens finished and in the rack.

The Turquoise pen has a gunmetal finish for the hardware and the Red one has chrome.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the nice comments.
Here is another one that I just finished tonight. I don't care for the color all that much but is was a commission so I did it. I have a couple more with the cross that I am going to do one dark blue with white cross and one light blue with black cross. I think they will turn out prettier because of the color.

It looks good but just not as vibrant as the others. It still turned out quite nicely. Smile Is it more beige or ivory colored, does it mimic marble or another stone?

The cross is put in when the blank is molded. I don't do that part. I buy the blanks square 3/4" x 5". I then drill and glue tubes in them. Then they go on my lathe to be turned. The hardware is them pressure fitted to finish up the pen. The same process with a wooden pen true stone pen.

Very nice! My uncle & his daughter make pens and they set up every year in Washington D.C. at a show where they sell them. They are beautiful too.

Here are the blue cross pens.  I think these are nicer colors than the "tan" pen posted above.

The dark one with the white cross is already sold and another one like it ordered.  I'll be turning it today, I hope.

Thanks everyone for the nice words. I do enjoy turning on my lathe, and when I sell it helps support my wood shop addiction.Very Happy

Man those are all beautiful. Do you have a price list, ebay store, or how would one go about ordering one?

The Cherry one in the fist pic is my favorite. It would fit me even better if you had one with silver hardware with a satin finish.

Harvey,
That particular pen of course has been sold long ago. I can do a cherry one in brushed satin with the same style hardware. That particular pen would be $25.00 + $3.00 s/h.
I'll send you a PM.
