This has sat long neglected, but thanks to a few brave souls who put the spot light on a need I think we can resurrect this forum. What we need to do is simply shake off the cobwebs and knock the dust off the fixtures.

So lets all try to add something here once a month, more if you can.

With the economy on life support the already ridiculously high prices could sky rocket. This would put already cash strapped families in a real bind. Couponing, yardsaleing, DIY efforts, anything to pinch a penny, post it here.

This will be a great thread. I'll be watching it closely and trying to add to it as I think of things.

My dw buys denim and other material in the form of clothes at the thrift stores for almost nothing and turns it into beautiful quilts. She is now making a rug from denim (jeans) she picked up for nothing at the end of a sale where they were giving it away.

I use denim in my rag quilts. I used it with some pretty brown material to make us a rag quilted throw rug. Smile

It looks like we have two threads that we are posting the "Frugal Tips" on. I wonder if we could join them into one?

Here is something I tried many years ago and found it to work quite well. We put a roast in our dutch oven and packed potatoes and carrots and some onions around it and baked it in our kitchen oven it till we figured it was about half done. Then I had a wooden box that I packed with an old blanket on the bottom and I set the dutch oven down into the box and on top of several layers of the old blanket. We did not open the dutch oven. You must not let any heat out. I packed straw all around the oven and on top of the oven as tightly as I could then put another old blanket on top and set on the lid back on the box. We traveled to Cooks Forest State Park where we went hiking for several hours. When we got back to the car we opened the box and carefully took out the dutch oven and lifted the lid. There we had a full course meal very nicely cooked. It tasted better than if we had eaten it at home around our kitchen table. We put the oven in the box about 10:00 AM and ate our supper which was steaming hot around 5:00 PM.

This is sure better than spending money for a family for eating out, we probably got more to eat and I know it tasted better than restaurant food.
