Anyone else into medicinal herbs?
I know we use to have some herbalists on the forum, but haven't seen them post for some time now. I'm learning more every day about medicinal herbs and would love to have others to discuss it with.

I'm not doing any, but would sure like to learn.

Re: Anyone else into medicinal herbs?
Maybe I'll start posting some of what I've been learning and talk about the herbs I've been planting and what they are good for and how to prepare them. What I've tried doing is thinking of the health issues my family confronts and trying to find herbal remedies for those things. For instance, we all suffer seasonal allergies, and stinging nettle is good for that. Of course, local honey, taken over a period of time, also helps with allergies.

Wondering if any of you have tried the ones for joint pain and what you think about it. Does it really work and how long did it take before you felt better?

Carla, are you talking about over the counter ones? Do you know what herbs are in the one you're talking about?
Re: Anyone else into medicinal herbs?
I will try to find the link I read and let you know. I have been reading so many articles on herbal remedies I hope I can find it.

I actually found it in this forum. 1. Is "Cures in your cupboard." 2. Is in " 8 cures for arthritis.
Curuma, ginger, willow just to name a few that it is talking about.

I was actually wondering if anyone has used anything that is all natural for pain relief, if so what did you use and how well & fast did it work? I am wanting to get off as many medications as I can. I want to use all natural as much as possible.

Carla, willow works. It has the same properties as aspirin. The only herb I have taken on a regular basis though is St Johns Wort for depression. I've been on it for years and it really works for me. I've talked to my doctor about it and was told that in Europe they actually prescribe it. In fact, alot of herbal remedies are used by the professionals in Europe, but here in the states the big pharm companies fight against natural remedies.

Is willow something that I can grow or does it have to be bought through a health food store?

Re: Anyone else into medicinal herbs?
It's the white willow trees. You use the bark. You could probably get some at a health food store. You could grow feverfew in a pot and it has similar properties. I may have some seeds here if you're interested.
Re: Anyone else into medicinal herbs?
There are many different types of willow. Some are better than others for relieving pain. But, if you have problems w/aspirin, you'll also have problems w/willow.

Dizzy, true. White willow is best for relieving pain, and yes, since it has the same properties it can cause stomach upsets. Thanks for sharing.
Re: Anyone else into medicinal herbs?
Yep, and kids shouldn't use willow since it can cause the same problems-like Reyes-as aspirin can.
