Making Cheese is Fun

By Allena Jackson

"If you are lucky enough to own a dairy animal, then you probably have excess milk on your hands and wonder, "What could I do with this extra milk?" Extra milk can be processed into delicious cheeses. It is fun, easy, and doesn't require a lot of expensive equipment to get started. As you will see, you don't even need a kitchen, although I do highly recommend one. You can also use store-bought milk for the cheese I am making today, Fromage Blanc."

I wish we had room for dairy animals because I'm sure I'd love to make cheese.

I don't know how much room you have, but our little Nigerian Dwarf goats are about the size of a dog. Top weight is about 50 pounds, but they have great milk.

I'm on less than a 1/4 acre lot in a subdivision in an unicorporated area just outside of town. We will eventually be annexed into that town through a water deal they passed a number of years ago. I don't think I'd be able to legally own a goat here, I never asked about the chickens, I just got them. Wink

With the ND's you may be able to get away with calling them pets. I know that a lot of people got away with pot bellied pigs doing it that way.
