Earthships Empty Earthships

Post by amybyrd21 Tue Sep 13, 2011 10:11 am

I wanted to share with yall about Earth Ships. they are the Brain Child of Micheal Reynolds. They are a form of housing that is totally off grid. Down below are two videos. On on youtube of him explaining about them. There are a couple parts to this. The one listed is the first one in the series. The second one is called Garbage Warriors. It is a documentary that tells about them.

They are made from rammed earth with car tires, bottles, and cans. They have thier own water collection system and solar electric system. Some of them even have wind. There are videos of a relator touring them on youtube if you would like to see inside one.

They reuse grey water to water the planters inside so you can grow food year round. In some of them they raise fish. They reuse the grey water to flush the toliets and then that water goes out side for the landscape (nonedible) plants.

If you can not build your own you can use some of the ideas to help you along in becoming more self sufficent. We are going to use the rain catchment system for right now. We are planning on building one in the near future. The ramed earth or building with bottles and cans can also be used in making flower beds, and yard art. You do not see the bottles or cans unless you want them to show thru.

If any one has a question on them let me know. I will try to answer it if not I will ask hubby or look it up for you. Hubby has been studying them for atleast a year now.
