Rosehip Infusion Empty Rosehip Infusion

Post by Sonshine on Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:22 am

Found this link and thought some might enjoy it.

My favorite simple infusion is made with rosehips (Rosa canina), also known as rose haws, hip berry or wild rose. Rosehips contain a fair amount of vitamin C and can help stave off cold symptoms. They are the fruit of the rose and have also been used to make jams, jellies and soups.

An infusion is basically the same as a tea, except the herbs and the hot water have been left to steep longer with the hopes of a stronger brew. Let’s get started!

Thanks so much for posting that. I think the next time I have money I'm going to make a trip to the health food store and pick up some rose hips and try that. Too easy.

If you have a place to plant them, I have some rose plant seeds that I got from someone on Homesteading today. She says they make some nice rose hips.

Thank you so much. It all depends on where I land. The mobile home I looked at the other day is on a nice corner lot in a mostly adult park and there is a lot of room (because it is on a corner) to plant things - actually more room than where I am now. I know you'll think I'm nuts but I have a feeling about that place - like maybe that is where I should be to teach others about gardening and growing their own and line drying clothes (although it is against park rules to have outside clotheslines there is one out in back of this place that is "grandfathered in"). Living here is nice, but very expensive and who am I going to help living by myself. I think I need to be in a community of some sort.

Just let me know if you want some seeds. We live in a mobile home community, but each lot is a couple of acres. As far as I know there's only a couple of rentals in our neighborhood, the rest of the lots are home owned.

We lost a lot of neighbors with all the foreclosures, but I had begun teaching one of my neighbors how to can before they lost their home. My other neighbor is an elderly couple with no family close by, so Joe and I basically adopted them. She's going to be helping me with my garden and milking the goats this year, in return we'll share whatever we produce. God really blessed me with that arrangement because I was wondering how much I would be able to do with my physical problems, but one day I was working in my herb garden and we started talking. I had been giving them food for awhile now. He had been in a plane crash a little over a year ago and is limited on what he can eat since he had severe head trauma and his mouth is pretty messed up still. So he can't eat things he has to chew much. I try to make things that will be easy for him to chew. She's not much on cooking. Smile She doesn't like to cook, and since I love to it works out great. Any way, while we were talking I said something about the garden and hoping I'd be able to do more in it this year. She said that she would love to help me. She had worked in gardens when she was younger. So, I made a deal about sharing what we produce. Then I jokingly said, "Now, if I could just find someone to help me milk goats and make cheese and soap." She told me she use to milk cows and missed it, that she would be more than happy to help with my babies. Smile So, looks like God has found a way to help me and help them. Their finances are tight, since SS has not had any increases, so this helps them with the cost of food.

Sonshine, it sounds like you and your neighbor are the answer to each others prayers. Funny how God sends people into your life just when you need them. Wink

I'm not sure if I already asked but what state do you live in?

We're in Middle Georgia. I noticed you're from Northern Illinois. I was born and raised in Rockford. Smile

Yes, God really blessed me with good people. Before they lost their home in foreclosure, we had a neighbor across the street. I don't know what I would have done before my surgery and immediately following it, without her. We hired her to do some housework for us, trying to help them with their finances and help me out at the same time, but she did so much more. When Joe had to take a business trip, she would come over with her kids and stay the night. She cooked the meals and cleaned up afterwards, took care of Tyler, just basically did everything for me. I wish I could have helped them more so they didn't lose their house. We're still in touch with each other, but it's not the same as having her right across the street.

Rockford is about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours North of us. My neighbor has family living up their. His nephew is raising his grandkids so we send outgrown clothes and toys up twice a year with him for the kids. They are just thrilled when Uncle Harold comes to visit. I don't mind sending the stuff because I know they all appreciate the stuff, basically they need it. The kids don't have/get much with the grandparents being on a fixed income. Plus it gets tons of stuff out of my house. Wink We usually try to time our clean out just as summer is starting and before Christmas.

It's a shame when you lose good neighbors like that. At least you've still been able to keep in contact with them. Who knows, maybe one day they'll be able to re-purchase their home, God can make it happen. Through Him all things are possible. Very Happy
