Seed validity test? Empty Seed validity test?

Post by Harvey_Birdman Wed Feb 11, 2015 8:52 am

What ways of testing seeds have you heard of, or better yet tried?

I have heard that you can test them by whither or not they float, but I don't remember if the good ones are supposed to float or sink. I also don't remember if this was for all seeds or just certain ones.

I was checking some eggs earlier, and I was thinking it is amazing how God designed eggs so that if they are bad they float. This got me wondering if there was any truth to the seed float test, but I couldn't remember how it went. I would think that bad seeds float, and good seeds sink, but I am not sure.

God bless,
Chad

at this point in time, a germination test would be best. Put a few in wet news print, or paper towel, keep it wet and warm for the duration of the test, and see how many of your sample sprout.

Wet processing prior to storage involved several rinses and pouring off all floaters, the fully mature seeds sink.
