Re: Food Supplies
How did the bars turn out?
MissKitty and I are doing pretty ok even if the heat/drought burned up garden and having to hay the sheep already... found out I wasn't nearly prepped enough for the livestock.
We learned how to make fruit smoothies in the Proverbs Meetin, ummm good!

Re: Food Supplies
Unfortunately, I never got the chance to make them yet. Things got so busy around here, and with my limited mobility right now I'm having troubles keeping up. I'm hoping after my next surgery I'll get a chance to do some experimenting and plan on making these bars. Of course, Ms Kitty could take mercy on me and send some my way for us to test.
Re: Food Supplies
Sonshine: I doubt the bars would be safe to eat after a trip as they really need to be refrigerated after being made.
We have been making breads on the griddle instead of lighting the oven (record breaking temps in this area lately). MissKathy's Spelt biscuit dough is quite good rolled out about 1/4 inch thick and cooked like this, been making Bannock type breads this way also, all quite good. Planning to try the Bannock using a Spelt/Rye/Barley flour mix soon.

Basics:
2 cup organic rolled oats
1/2 cup peanut butter (recipe says you can use almond butter instead)
1/4 cup honey
Add as / if desired to taste (substitutions encouraged)
1 cup carob chips
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped cashews (or almonds)
1 cup chopped dehydrated apple
Mix together, press into pan and chill.

I forgot something else.... Misskitty usually mixes a "dollop" of pure Vanilla into the bars.
