Bowl From Chestnut Wood Empty Bowl From Chestnut Wood

Post by Rohn Mon Oct 15, 2012 10:51 pm

I just bought a new lathe and this is the first bowl I have completed on it. This lathe is called the Ring Master Lathe, and it cuts rings from flat boards to make bowls, vases etc. This bowl is made from chestnut that I got from an old piano I cannibalized. I kept all the wood so I could reuse it in the wood shop.
Hope you all enjoy seeing my projects and if you do I'll keep posting them. I enjoy showing off what I am making.

Both pictures are the same bowl just different sides. The bowl is about 7 inches across the top.

That is beautiful! How do you make the rings stay together? Is it waterproof?

The rings are glued and then put in my shop made press until the glue sets up. I do use water proof glue, but I'd still want be careful with too much liquid in the wooden bowls. They would be good for things like chips or fruit or (my favorite) M & M's.

Only for M & M's I'd want a bigger bowl.

The grainlines on your bowl are just awesome.

My dh like bigger bowls for cereal and ice cream and popcorn.
