If athletic pants are beyond repair, take a seam ripper and remove the leg zippers and drawstring. Check yard sales or Goodwill for cheap shirts with pretty buttons. I've found badly stained ladies' blouses with beautiful buttons for only $.25.

I always keep old buttons from shirts that I trash. And, if zippers aren't busted, I'll keep them too.

I keep a mason jar of buttons that come off old clothes, zippers, and any other little attachments that go on clothes. that way I have them if I need them for another project
