Hi from Oregon Empty Hi from Oregon

Post by NativeOregonian Wed May 13, 2009 10:43 pm

Hi Everyone. I am Joni, born and raised in Oregon. My Husband was a Logger/ Log Truck Driver for 30 years. I have had my own Upholstery Shop for 19 years. We have been married for 34 years, have three great kids and four grandchildren. The only animals I have is one dog. I am kind of a homesteading want-to-be. I hope that is ok. I do sew, cook, can and garden. I do buy fresh cows milk and eggs so have been having fun and experimenting with that. (Butter, ice cream etc.) We just built a shop building with a loft which we hope to live in the loft part someday and be as much off the grid as possible. We have 7 acres so hope to get chickens and maybe beef someday also. I love learning from all of you. I hate to say this, but I kind of followed Sonshine over here and so far I like this site.

Leave it to me to originally post this in the wrong place.

Hi Joni,
I'm glad you like the site and I look forward to getting better aquainted. The people here are all in different levels of homesteading. I believe homesteading is a heart thing. Smile

Joni, I spent 2 summers working at the Cannon Beach Conference Center. Have you ever been there? I used to dream of living in Oregon. Now, my dream is Tennessee (although Virginia ranks right up there).

Hello and welcome a board. It sounds like you are in the right place. There are a lot of homesteader want-to-bes out there and this is a good place to start. It's so much easier when you can get info. and questions anwsered.
I'm sure you will fit right in.

Yes , I have been to Cannon Beach. We live in Eastern Oregon (High Desert) We also have a small place on the Southern Oregon Coast. I love the coast. The older I get, it all about the weather. The coast ranges from about 40 degrees to 70 degrees. Eastern Oregon can get down to 25 below zero in the winter and up to 105 in the summer. They both have pros and cons. But I love Oregon. Tenn. is beautiful too. My mother is from Knoxville and had many relatives there. I have been there several times and also love the area.

One thing that a lot of people do not know about Oregon is the geography. Oregon has Coast, Mountains, Lots of Timber, (yes it has not been all logged). wheat fields, desert, plateaus, valleys. Just drive a few hours and the scenery completely changes.
