started planting

This week I have started carrots (sown directly into the raised bed), winter squash, and potatoes.

Just happened to catch the soil just right, and a couple hours after I planted the potatoes today, we got .2" of rain. Just about right to off set the evaporation from opening the trench.

Anyone else getting an early start

We've got our sweet peas out, but that's about it. I do have some tomatoes and bell peppers started in the house though. We're hoping to get our root vegetables in this weekend, just hope the rain holds off because we have a lot to do this weekend outside.

I'm hoping to start this coming week. But we have one new garden bed - a 3 Sisters Garden - that we will be starting from scratch and it will probably be next weekend before I can get that one going. I have cleaned out the strawberry bed and it is already doing it's thing. Spring kind of snuck up on me this year. I've been busy with other things and now I'm already starting to feel a bit behind. I hate that feeling.

It's still early, but the weather is unusually warm this year. I talked to my Dad this morning, he's my go to guy with all things gardening, and asked if he thought it was safe to put my tomatoes out. He said we could still get a frost, but they should be ok as long as I cover them. I have 40 tomatoe plants and 20 pepper plants that I started in January. They grew faster than I expected, so if I don't get them in the garden I'll have to repot them. I'd rather take my chances in the garden.

I'm not putting anything like that out yet, I like to wait until the middle of april or may before putting out peppers and tomatoes. Root crops aren't as frost sensitive as other plants.

Yeah, but we're a bit further south and I'm afraid of losing them if I don't get them in soon. I'll try a few and stagger the rest.

I have Jalapeno, bell peppers and tomatoes started in the house. I have a low spot where my garden is and have to wait for it to dry up in the spring before I can work it. This nice weather makes me anxious to get into the garden.
