Hot peppers!! Empty Hot peppers!!

Post by 12acrehome Sun Feb 05, 2012 9:51 am

For those of you who, like me, enjoy a bit of heat in a few favorite dishes. Ever have trouble finding the exact pepper you want, but would like to know how the peppers compare. If you can find your favorite on a Scoville chart. This link explains the Scoville units:
http://www.vintageveggies.com/information/scoville.html

And this one compares hot peppers and ranks them on the scoville scale:

For me, if I am looking for a eating pepper the Jalapeno is about as hot as I can stand, and prefer them to be in something like a burrito. For a pepper to add to 5 alarm chili the Habanero is plenty!! For fried chicken (yep try it) add cayenne pepper to the flour used for the breading. (add a tablespoon of salt, and 1/4 cup dried and ground cayenne pepper, and a tbsp of paprika to about 2 cups of flour to bread the chicken pieces with) Now for just chilled and eat peppers, look at the bottom of the list for the pepperoncinis. Smile

I raise Jalapenos and love to eat them with most any kind of foods. I pickle them but like them fresh also. I also raise chili peppers. Some of them get as hot as the Jalapeno. I think it has something to do with the hot temps down here in the south. There's been a few times that I've bitten into a chili pepper and it'd be so hot that I couldn't eat it. LOL

I've tried to grow Thai peppers but I've never gotten any of the seed to germinate.

I raise Jalapenos, chili's, cayenne, and banana peppers. I raised some Habaneros once, but they were way too hot for me, even in chili.

I raised some Habernaros once too. They were so hot that when I picked them (even with long sleeve shirt on they stung my skin. Needless to say I never tried to eat them. But I do love hot sauce made with habernaros.

We grow jalapenos and bell peppers. I have also grown banana peppers. We make a V6 juice and like to use the jalapenos in it.

I do make salsa, but it doesn't last long around here. Smile I'm not fond of the habeneros. I think I would be ok with the heat, but not crazy about the taste of them.
