Need some ideas
We will be getting $6,500. minus taxes in the next few weeks and am looking for prep item suggestions. I already posted this in HT, but want to hear from all of you on any suggestions.
Re: Need some ideas
I'd get a Berkey with extra filters, if you don't have one already. Or at least get a couple of filters and 2 five gallon buckets to make a homemade version.
A woodstove and supply of seasoned firewood.
I know you already have a manual grain mill so I'll suggest extra grain and food storage. The grains are going to be in short supply this year with all of the flooding and drought in other areas. Extra supply of garden seeds.
An ample supply of canning supplies~~~lids, rings, jars. A pressure canner if you don't already have one. Dehydrator~~electric or non-electric. Manual vacumn sealer to aid in storing dehydrated food.
Extra clothing/footwear in appropriate sizes for each member of the family. Plenty of seasonal appropriate items~~~hats, gloves, coats, boots.
Extra bedding, blankets, sleeping bags, towels.
Necessary gardening items such are shovels, hoes, rakes, stakes, cages, season extenders, row covers.
Extra supply of personal care items, first aid items, medicines, eye glasses.
Wringer, clothes line and clothes pins. Wash tubs for doing laundry by hand.

Re: Need some ideas
Patricia, we have a lot of what you suggested. We don't have a water filter, but Joe said that with our well we probably won't need one. Something about water purifying itself every 10 ft of soil it passes through. We ordered some extra tattler lids, and plan on getting some more when we get the money. The pressure canner my Mom gave me a couple of years ago. We do need to lay in a supply of wood. We're also going to buy a larger woodstove and found a solar freezer we want to get.
I've thought alot about clothes, espcially for Ty. The problem with that is he is growing so fast, so instead I'm trying to stock up on cloth and buttons, etc.
We are getting clothes line and clothes pins. I have an old scrub board and an old manual wringer, but we are going to get a couple of deep sinks. I've been wanting to get them anyways for when we process the chickens.
Someone on HT suggested an oil press, and since we're raising black oil sunflowers I thought that might be a good idea. We also are planning on growing wheat. Our neighbor has offered her land for that and whatever else we want to grow there.
