God has a plan
Genesis 39:2
“The LORD was with Joseph, and he was successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.”
Talk about making the best out of a bad situation; Joseph always had a knack for rising to the top no matter how tough the circumstance that life dealt him. After his brothers sold him into slavery, telling his father that he had died, Joseph did not give up on life. He did not fall into the trap of feeling sorry for himself and griping and complaining for the rest of his days. No, instead he stayed faithful to God and let God use him as Potipher’s personal Chief of Staff. God was with him even through the not-so-ideal situation he was thrust into. In fact, the blessings of God overflowed his Joseph’s: “So it was, from the time that he (Potipher) had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had in the house and in the field” (Genesis 39:5).
Here are some important things we can learn from Joseph’s life:
1. God is with us even in tough circumstances.
2. When tough things happen to us, we can choose to give up and complain the rest of our days, or we can choose to trust God and “bloom where we are planted” understanding that God has a plan in everything.
3. When we submit to God’s purpose for our lives, not only are we blessed, but those around us are blessed through us.
Joseph’s “hard road” was hardly over when he arrived at Potipher’s house. He still had to endure false accusation and prison. But even through that, he excelled because God was always with him. Eventually he wound up Second in Command in all of Egypt, with the authority to save his whole family and nation by feeding them during famine. It was then that Joseph could look back over his life and say, “but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
Don’t give up in the hardships of life. Make the best out of bad situations. Excel in the place God has you. Don’t become addicted to complaining, but rather let God show you how he can use you right there in the circumstance you are in. God means it for good.
