Glad you're back Amy. I hope your body chemicals get adjusted quickly and you get to feeling better.

William went to help his friend, Robert today. I think they mostly did away with a hedge row pulling the bushes up with a tractor and burning them.

I got the laundry done and several other things that I needed to do out of the way.

Tonight we had breakfast for dinner.
I hope you all have a great weekend. Wish you all a Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Welcome back Amy. Hope all goes well with the dialysis and be sure to take it easy.

Thanks for the info on milking once a day Sonshine. I think it will be pretty easy to put her on a once a day milking program since she is a FF and I'm sure if I explain it to Peggy (the lady I'm getting them from) she will help me out getting her started on that.

Today was kind of wasted but then again not really. I couldn't do anything here at the house anyway with the barn or garden. I did go to a spinning guild meeting and learned how to needle felt. We made a little pin but mostly I would be doing hats and boot liners. Had some good conversation with some ladies who have sheep and alpaca. Tomorrow I've been invited to a friends farm to learn how to care for alpacas. Knowing me I'll probably end up deciding to get alpacas too and then I'll have to find a llama or donkey as a guard animal.

After the meeting I met my DD and her mother-in-law to be and we went and picked out the dresses for the bridesmaids. They will compliment Lexy's gown nicely and will pull it all together. After that was done I spent some time with Lexy and Andrew and came home to feed the dogs. Now it's time to let them out because it is dusky but not too dark and I don't let them out too late at night because my furry friends the coyetes are back.

Hope everyone had a good day.

I hope everyone is feeling good on this beautiful Saturday.

I've been busy with household chores today. I was planning to get some tomato plants to put out but we didn't go into town today. I'm going to plant some seed directly into the ground a little later on but thought I would get a head start with some bought plants.

William has the turkey pen almost finished. He's putting wire across the top of the pen. I hope we can get them moved into the larger pen on Monday. We have two toms and they have been fighting. One of the toms has lost some feathers off his breast so we're going to leave him in a pen by himself.

William is planning to cut an a tree that has fallen to put in the turkey pen. When we had turkeys before we had the top of a tree in their pen for them to roost in.

The little rabbits are beginning to come out of their nest boxes. They are so pretty and a lot of different colors. I hope we can sell them quickly.

We had corned beef and cabbage for our lunch today. For dinner I cooked chicken stew and cornbread.

MM, I planted some tomatoe and pepper seedlings in January, so we'll be getting those in the ground this week. I've never tried planting the seeds directly in the garden for some reason.

We finished a pretty big job today, we got our new goat pen done. It's about 3 times the size it was and they are really enjoying it. This is the first time in over a year that I've been able to feel useful around here. I'm sore, but it's a good soreness that only comes from working up a sweat. Smile

We actually went out for supper tonight, because we were so late finishing the goat pen. (had to take a break from it due to rain) We were all exhausted. I knew it would be a big job, but didn't realize it would be THAT big of one.

For lunch we started a fire in the pit and had a wienee roast. Tonight, after we got home from Golden Corral we made some smores. Ty loves cooking on an open fire and I gotta admit, I do too. Smile

How has your day been and what's for dinner................... Empty Re: How has your day been and what's for dinner...................

Post by PlainFolk Mon Mar 19, 2012 3:48 am

I've felt pretty useless today. I had fun Friday night with my daughter and all her friends camping out at the cabins. Usually at home, I'm woken up by the rooster but at our camp, it's ducks that wake you up. It was beautiful. We were staying literally just a few feet away from the lake and by 5am there were lots of ducks gliding in and talking to one another. Along with the fog on top of the water and all the thick woods on the other side, it was a fairly perfect way to wake up. After we got home, I helped a friend all day at her dog shop. She runs a dog grooming shop and she needed some help. So I bathed dogs all day long. When I got home yesterday I was pretty much done for and I'm just now starting to feel more human.

Tomorrow I've got work in the garden and chicken yard to do and also some canning. My greenhouse plans are not coming together like I had hoped and I'm a bit ticked over that. I don't have my new chicks yet and I don't have my rabbit set up the way I want it either. Spring has barely sprung and I'm already feeling so behind. It's got to only get better, right?

Post by backtotheland Mon Mar 19, 2012 6:02 am

Today turned out to be a wonderful day. I went to a Herd Health Day at a friend's alpaca farm because I'm thinking of getting alpacas in addition to the sheep, rabbits, goats and chickens. I learned so much and got to some hands on with the alpacas. I gave them Ivermectin shots, tested to see their weight was, gave them worming paste and learned how to do a fecal sample. These folks have a centrifuge and microscope and do their own, of course they have 100 alpacas. I looked at four that would be strictly fiber animals, no showing for me, although these guys are halter trained, but I just don't show animals. Looked at the bunnies too as she is going to have bunnies for sale some time later in the spring.

After I left there I went to my older daughter's to help her move to the apartment downstairs but came home when I realized there was not much getting done because there were too many people there. I stopped at my friends down the road and BOTH of her Jersey's are bred, one is due in a few weeks. I came home, put my supper on the stove, fed the dogs and checked in here.

The weather was absolutely beautiful and is supposed to be for the next five days. We're supposed to be getting some rain tomorrow and I hope we do because we need it.

Hope everyone enjoyed their day.

We are getting back in the grove of things. We are working on the raised beds to get them ready. Building another worm compost bin. We found a man in town that sells worms by the handfull for really cheap. So hubby is building more places to put them.

I am actually feeling better when I get up. I am getting over 2 liters of fluid off a night with the diyalsis. But by the end of the evening I am pretty much worn out. This should get better the more diyalsis I get.

For dinner we went out to eat with my parents. They had to pick some of us up since my car decided to start making a weird noise and have no pull to get up the hill down from our house. So we went to a Chinese Buffet. It was really good and we all enjoyed our selves. Now we have to see what is wrong with the grocery getter. They think it has something to do with the fuel system but are not sure yet.

Post by PATRICE IN IL Tue Mar 20, 2012 12:04 am

Amy, I'm glad that you are feeling better and the dialysis is helping you.

I hope the rest of you are all doing well.

I had a busy end of the week last week and a busy weekend. Thursday I did a bit of yardwork for an elderly friend. Friday we had a delivery at the food pantry and Saturday I did yard work at home.

Before I started my yardwork Saturday, I got my corned beef set up in a roasting pan and set the toaster oven on the patio table to cook it while I worked outside. It was in the 80's and I didn't want to heat my house up with my regular oven. It smelled so good while I was working. Smile

I managed to get the 10' raised bed and the wash tub planter in the front yard cleaned out, gave the evergreen bush a haircut Wink, trimmed the clematis vine, cleaned out the flower bed in the backyard behind the house, cleaned out a large flower pot and started some seeds. I started 2 varieties of tomatoes, some red & yellow bell peppers, some cabbages, some zucchini and seeded the large flower pot and wash tub with some cosmos seeds.

On Sunday after church and the food pantry I came home and had to clean up the yard after the horses messed it up. I also managed to get my fruit trees sprayed with dormant oil. I wanted to get them sprayed before they broke bud but I was a bit too late. The peach tree had many broken buds as well as the dwarf apple tree. My semi-dwarf apple tree was still full of closed buds.

This week I'll have to run to the nursery and see if I can get a blueberry bush to replace the one that went missing from the horses. I also need to move one of the established ones, I'll just wait and dig the 2 holes at one time. My momma taught me to work smarter, NOT harder. Wink

Well, I hope you all have a good rest of your Monday. We are going to have pizza for dinner tonight. My DH will pick it up on his way home from the wake for a gentleman from church, I can't go with him because I have to babysit a neighbor's child until 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. this evening. If the weather holds out, we're supposed to get strong storms this afternoon/evening, I may run to the wake by myself.

What sort of Chinese dishes do you like? Cooking Chinese food isn't that hard, just takes a bit of prep work.

I haven't done much today. Joe said that since I did so much this week-end I need to rest, which is probably wise since it's been so long since I've done anything. My muscles are a bit sore, but it's a good sore unlike the pain I had been experiencing. I go for my last nerve block injection on Wednesday. This one they're going to give a little lower than the last two. So, after school and lunch I've just been laying here feeling guilty about not being outside weeding my herb garden. When Joe comes home I'll go out and help him do some planting.

For supper I'm making teriyaki chicken and rice, not sure what veggie I'm going to fix with it. Ty won't it it, so I'll take his chicken breast and let him make some chicken strips and homemade fries. Since he's learning how to cook and this is a recipe he is familiar with and likes it'll be good for him. Smile

Any of it, lol! The kids don't care for it but hubby and I *love* it. If we ever get to go out just the two of us, we always head for a Chinese place. But the closest one is an hour away so we don't get to have it that often. I'm a pretty good cook but of the way down south variety. I've never even attempted Chinese food.

Just let me know what you like the most and I'll try to post some recipes for them. But for now I want to share how I make American syle fried rice. I don't measure things, so you'll have to play with it a bit. Cook however much rice you want and set it aside. Cut some bacon up in small pieces and fry. Add some chopped green onion to the bacon without draining the bacon grease. Add the cooked rice. Add soy sauce to taste. If you would like you can add some mixed veggies to this mixture or scramble an egg in a separate pan and add it to the mixture. Always add the egg last and just toss. I learned how to make this right out of basic training when I had a roommate who was Asian. She use to make it for us for breakfast, but I like serving it with pork chops or chicken.

LOL I do like the Japanese steak houses that have the hibachi grill. Ty loves watching them cook and I think that's what made him decide he wants to be a chef. Most kids his age want to go to McDonald's when they get a chance to eat out. Not my son, he wants to go to Zens, our Japansese steakhouse.

Sonshine, William and I went to a Japanese steakhouse in Meridian to eat one evening. We wanted to sit at the hibachi grill and watch the chef cook. I was sitting there really enjoying his act when a spatular came flying at me. It barely missed hitting me in the head. LOL Glad it wasn't a knife.

We love Chinese food too. My favorites are the spring rolls and what the places here call Rangoons (wontons stuffed with crab meat and fried). I love their veggies. I can eat just the vegetables.

Today William has been outside working in the garden. He's been putting compost in the beds and working it in. I'm going to pick up some tomato plants tomorrow while we are out for his VA appointment.

I've worked inside today. My friend from Kansas is down to visit during spring break and she's supposed to come have coffee with us one morning this week. I need to bake a coffee cake or some kind of muffins for us to have with our coffee. I'll try to get that done after we get back tomorrow.

For dinner we had grilled steak, corn on the cob and broccoli salad. I used one of Paula Deen's recipes for the steaks and they were really good. I saw here coat rib eyes on both sides with Dijon mustard then sprinkle with Kosher salt and cracked pepper. She let them set for about 30 minutes then grilled them. I have to say I will be doing steaks this way again. William and I both like them.

MM, my sister had a similar experince at Zen's once. She had stopped by for an overnight visit and we took her there. The chef was not the one we usually get, I figure he was fairly new. The spatula got away from him and hit one of the sauces that was in front of my sister and she got splattered with it. We joked around about her getting sauced. LOL

Hope you have a good visit with your friend.

I usually marinate my steaks in a homemade teriyaki marinade, but I have had some marinated in italian dressing that were pretty good too. I'm not a big fan of dijon mustard, so probably wouldn't care much for Paula Deen's recipe, although I like most of the recipes she shares.

Post by backtotheland Tue Mar 20, 2012 6:18 pm

Had another beautiful day weatherwise. I really wish I had gotten all of the supplies for my barn back in the fall and it probably would have been up by now with the weather being so nice.

I went to my Monday spinning group today since I haven't been in ages. Had a wonderful time catching up and managed to score a milking stand and some second cutting hay just for going to help the gal stack it. I love to stack hay. I'm not as fast as some 18 year old but I think between the two of it we will get it done.

My goat lady sent me another picture of my little girl and she sure is a cutie. She also has a doe in milk that her husband wants her to sell so she offered her tome. Yipeeeeee, goat milk. I'll have to wait until the end of May but who cares, I don't have the barn up anyway. This new news will probably spur the guys who are helping me put up the barn to start sooner. Of course, I've only got three weeks before we were scheduled to start and I don't have the money to get the rest of the supplies anyway.

I just had a turkey sandwich for dinner last night because I wasn't that hungry and it had started to thunder anyway. One of the dogs, the older one, is afraid of thunder and lightening and has had a seizure in the past so I wanted to be sure I was paying attention.

I was watching some videos on YouTube yesterday morning by someone called MisterShooter 223. She was dressed plain like the born again Christian folks around here. Well, in one of her videos the was packing a 38 revolver and can handle a knife like a pro. The community she lives in is in Tennessee somewhere and while her family has solar power the rest of the folks don't. Her videos are very informative though. I also watched some videos on canning butter. I have a friend who does it but just melts the butter, pours it in the jars and then shakes it every now and then. In the video I watched yesterday they said to pressure can it and that's how I'm going to do it. I'm going to wait for butter to go on sale, pick up about eight pounds which will give me 17 pints of butter. Also watched a good one on canning milk. After watching that video I now know why I didn't like my goat milk I canned the last time I had goats. Now I know how to do it so I'm not so worried about not having goats milk in the winter.

Today I'm off to help my daughter get moved into the downstairs apartment. Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Sonshine, I don't care for Dijon Mustard either. On those steaks I could barely taste the mustard.

How is everyone feeling? I hope you all are feeling better. I still have the dry, hacky cough but that's part of Sarcoidosis. I feel a lot better though. William had to go for a VA appointment today. He got a good examination. It will be a few days before we hear from the tests though. When we were walking to the car I told him that I had walked all the way to the car and wasn't even short of breath. So thankful that I can do some work without getting winded.

I got the tomato plants today. We got Early Girl and only got six to get in the ground tomorrow if we don't have rain tomorrow.

Tonight we had hot dogs and nachos for dinner.

My friend Leaesa and her mom, Clara and I are going out for lunch tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing Leaesa. It's been a year since I've seen her.

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday! May God bless each one of you.

I love MistyShooter!!!! I've emailed her a few times and hubby and I are actually batting around the idea of moving over there to that community when we leave here. (Won't be for a few more years.) She's one very smart lady.
