New from East TN
Hello everyone!
Glad to be a new member and I'm looking forward to the Christian fellowship and good stewardship advise. My wife of 26 years and I have just purchased 10+ acres in NE Tennessee. It's very hilly with enough gentle slopes to make it usable.
Our plan is to build dept free and provide as much of our food as we can from our mini farm. Our oldest son and his family will be joining us in the adventure.
That's enough for now, God bless,
Mike

Re: New from East TN
Welcome Mike, glad to have you.
Currently the greatest activity is in the private members only area, but feel free to jump in anywhere, at any time.
I got a chuckle out of "Deer Creek Farm", about 4 miles from me is a place called "Deer Creek Lodge" (http://www.deercreeklodge.net/)
My ground has some gentle slopes as well as a couple flat areas. On the slopes I have planted a small orchard (or at least the beginings of one) and placed logs at the edge of a secondary garden spot to help hold top soil and slow water run off (hoping the rains soak in instead of draining off and being wasted).
I have 12 acres, with about 9 1/2 to 10 being wooded. For my wife and I there is plenty of room for widely spaced rows in the gardens. This allows low input (irrigation) during drought or dry spells.

Welcome to the group glad to have you join us. Feel free to look around and ask any questions you have, I'm sure someone will probably have an answer or two for you. We look forward to hearing about your adventures in getting your farm going.

Thanks all for the welcomes.
Hey 12acrehome.
The story of that name seems to be one of our adventures. Our property actually has a creek running through it named Forked Deer Creek. Hence the name and I checked to see if the domain name deercreek.farm was available. At the time it was. Low and behold one month later after we finished up closing on the property that domain had been taken a week before. So now even though my avatar here remains the same, the name of our farm is now Sweet Pea Farm with a domain name to match.

Thanks, it was really great. Well, except for the sunburn, but that's what ya get when you forget to reapply after swimming.

Birdman,
This is the view at the end of our road. It was taken at the Clinch Mountain Overlook. That's Cherokee Lake in the distance. Maybe next time you visit we can share a meal and some fellowship at Crystals at he Clinch Mountain Overlook.

I like Crystals much better than White Castles, which is what we have here in Illinois, same type of food but Crystals is less greasy/soggy.
