dog likes to eat yard ornaments

dog likes to eat yard ornaments
Does anyone have an idea on what to do when a dog likes to pull up the solar lights and eat them? My sister in laws dog which lives right next to me pulls up my lights and chews on them
I like the dog he just is annoying right now. My husband thought about putting icy hot on them, but wasn't sure if it would hurt the dog. He is a black lab and is only a little over a year old. I don't have a dog. So he is kinda like my dog!!

I believe they make stuff to discourage this type of behavior. If not, I'd try making a spray out of hot peppers.

I like Labradors, but they are the stupid dogs in the retriever world. (at least the one's I've had) Once they find something to do for entertainment, that's it, it is stuck in that brain for life, or until a lot of pain is associated with that activity. Icy Hot may not have the desired effect. Try taking the lights up for a few days, or weeks depending on how often he visits.

He probably is just wanting to chew. I would buy him one of those big beef bones and leave that in your yard. I will wager that will be chewed instead of the lights.

I think it has something to do when they light up. He is here everyday! I can't take them up because he already chewed them up
I thought about buying more but not until I know he will leave them alone

Re: dog likes to eat yard ornaments
My sis is dealing with a sweet little neighbor dog right now. She is a very pretty young border collie. Her owners are gone all of the time and the dog is lonesome and bored. She seems to find enjoyment in eating my sisters guinea fowl! Sis had told the owners and they say, "Oh dear". Of course they haven't offered to PAY for damages or be responsible for their dog. She really is a sweet dog, but something is going to give and soon.
Frustrating.

Personally I give owners of trouble dogs two very stern warnings...

My sister doesn't own stern. She tends to let people walk all over her.

Get a spray bottle and fill it with water. Set it for a long, steady stream, and when you catch the dog in the act, spray him in the face. I'd set out an old light for him to chew, then hide a little somewhere so he doesn't know what you're going to do, then nail him in the act.
The water won't hurt him, just startle him into stopping the behavior.

Re: dog likes to eat yard ornaments
Well just a little update
I sat a cheap light out in a flower pot and took the dog over to see it. I then told him it was a bad dog to eat my light! Believe it or not the dog doesn't like to be told he is bad! so I sat there for a while and everytime he would just walk past it I told him bad dog! Then I ventured out with another one in my flower bed. He laid next to it one night but did not eat it! So it has been probably about three weeks and he hasn't bothered them!!! Now if he will stay out of my garden I will love on him and praise him for being good! He really does not like to be told he is bad it is quit funny

I had a dog that would put herself in the corner if you scolded her.

Oh, that is so precious. Poor little thing must want to please you. We once had a neighbor dog who came over to lay on our front porch all the time. He just wanted attention.
