We've all been there, a task to do, and the proper equipment for the job is not available. Due to the extra wet and cool weather we were forced let our main field lay fallow. The growth of native plants and a couple invasive species had gotten out of hand. Normally not a big deal, just hook up the bush hog to the tractor and mow it down. The bush hog, however, is 15 miles away, and broken. Sad  That leaves our riding mower, smaller cut width, weaker blades, and not intended to use to cut waist high Korean Lespedeza, johnson grass, fox tail, honeysuckle, and other grasses not yet identified. To get the job done I removed the plastic deflector shoot that is bolted on to all modern mowers, adjusted the deck height control linkage to raise the deck to the highest possible level, and sharpened the blades. So I was able to get through the field, 56 inches at a time, and I will need to re cut it in the next few days as what was just pushed down will stand back up. It was faster and easier than using the Scythe, but definitely not as good as could have been done with the bush hog.

it occurs to me some here are not familiar with the term bush hog. Here are a couple links to demonstrate what I am talking about.
