Ruger 10/22?

Ruger 10/22?
What would be a good price for a good used Rugar 10/22 in todays market? I know I want one for Christmas this year, but if I find a good deal on one I don't want to pass it up waiting for Christmas. LOL! The problem I don't know what a good deal would be.
Any help would be great.
God bless,
Chad
I would especially like to hear from you Kieth, as you live the closest to me so the markets would be most similar.

Re: Ruger 10/22?
hmm, used .22 semi-autos that are most often offered for sale locally have functioning issues that are not easily fixed. A used 10-22 Ruger that is worth buying will run about 75% of the cost of a new one. Do not buy one that someone has monkeyed with. There are thousands of after market spring kits and tuning kits that when coordinated and properly tuned will improve the little Rugers to a point, but like any finely tuned machine require specized maintenance.
Hold out for a new one, or buy one as a bare action and build it (or have it built) to what you want.

Re: Ruger 10/22?
I agree with 12acres. I'd would advise holding out for a new one unless you are good at figuring out an issue with a used one and repairing it. I have done a bit of "gun-smithing" on my own guns and helped a friend or two with theirs but with a semi-automatic firearm there are a lot more parts and it has to be done right. At the right price I'd try fixing it up if it wasn't operating properly, but I enjoy that kind of thing.
Check out the prices on line and in stores, then you will know if someone has good deal on a used one. But in buying a used one that is broke you must take into consideration what parts and/or gunsmith fees will be added to your cost when you get it fixed.
A new one will carry a company warranty.

Re: Ruger 10/22?
The only problm with buying a new one is they are always sold out, at least lately. Aroung here folks are always swaping, or selling so just because it is used doesn't mean there is something wrong with it. I have bought/traded for many guns that have been great.

I know buying new these days can be a problem. Many gun companies are way behind the market demand.
Let us know if you find one. I understand that these are favorite guns of many people for plinking and having a lot of fun with. You might have trouble finding a used one at a good price too.

Re: Ruger 10/22?
I've bought used .22's for as little as $40 for three of em, and paid as much as $125.00 for one. All were basically parts guns due to being worn completely out. Oh they would shoot and cycle, a few times. People here buy sell and trade a lot too, mostly the junk when it comes to .22's. A Ruger 10/22 or 77/22 will bring top dollar if it is still serviceable. Also if you find a Remington 541 ( 'S' , or 'T' ) buy it! don't ask questions just buy it, and a few boxes of target or match grade .22's. Take it out and set up targets at 50 yards...you will be amazed.
Re: Ruger 10/22?
I will say this about Ruger. They stand behind their product. I bought a used P95 quite a few years ago and it had a problem with cycling. I kept getting hangups-jams. I sent the gun to Ruger and they put on a new barrel and ejector and sent the gun back to me at no charge. That was a few (20 or so) years ago but back then they stood behind their guns.
