Backtotheland, that's how my grandmother made juice.  I don't recall now how it turned out.  It's been too many years since she's been gone.

I also have a Jack LaLane juicer and I was wondering if I could juice the fruit and then can it. Even that way the chickens and goats could have the crushed fruit. I might give that a try too.

If you find that works, please, let us know!  I have a juicer, but don't really use it.  Years ago, I tried to find info on juicing and canning it, but had no luck.  And, I've never looked since.  I wouldn't be surprised to find out that other people do it now.

Yes you can backtotheland!  You should be able to water bath process the juice.

Why would you want to give the pulpy part to the chickens? I give plenty of spoiled stuff the the chickens.  The fruit pulp I keep.  There are a lot of vitamins, minerals and just plain old nutrition in the solid part of the fruit.  I would probably de-seed fruits that need seeding, juice the fruit then spread the pulp out on a jelly roll sheet in the dehydrator.  After the pulpy part is dried out you could crack it up for snacking on or even add it to granola recipes or muffin or pancake batter.

A lot of the little tips I have it has almost taken a life time to figure out.  Laughing

I have been urban homesteading for the last 30+ years.  Lots of times you are doing things some way and think you are doing great, then one day you wake up and ... Ahhh HA!  Your eyes open to a new possibility.

You are going to have a lot of AhhHa moments yourself as you get more skills under your belt.

I picked up a copy of the Ball Blue Book, It is very helpful. I made a batch of strawberry jam last Saturday. I haven't tried any of it yet. It had to set 24 hours, and the next day I went back to work, and I try not to eat very much sweets on work days. I will be off Sunday, so I know what I will be having with my Sunday morning vittles.

I gave some to my Vegan Jew friend, and he loved it, but he is a vegan, they will eat anything as long as it doesn't come from animals. I think it turned out good though, I did lick the bowl after I made it, but I haven't tried it fully set.

Thanks to you folks I knew that I could do it if I just tried, so when I saw the strawberries on sale I just went for it. Thank you all for the help.

God bless,
Chad

If you do make that leap, please take my advice as someone who has been canning for over half of my life, and buy a real good one.

The All American Canner is the only one for me.

Yes - it is freaking expensive.  You will not regret spending the money.

All American Canner Amazon http://www.allamericancanner.com/allamericanpressurecanner.htm

My husband is even cheaper than I am (and that is cheap!).  When I needed to buy a new canner HE was the one to suggest purchasing this.  Why?  Here is the story.

I learned to can on a borrowed All American Canner.  It belonged to my mother in law and was manufactured in the late 1940's.  It always and forever worked like a charm.  She used it from the day it was new until she finally slowed down canning.  By that point she had two and decided to loan me one.  I had it from about 1983 until about 2001.  Believe me I worked that thing hard most years.  I had almost forgotten that it was on LOAN, then she asked for it back!!  YIKES!  Right at the start of canning season.  I had to have a new canner and we researched hard.  Then we bought a new All American.  Just the best there is - STILL.
