Greeting from SW CT Empty Greeting from SW CT

Post by whisperingpines on Thu Oct 25, 2012 3:09 am

HI! My name is whisperingpines and I live in South Western CT. I am a sinner, saved by grace. I am married 30 years,
my only child is with the Lord. I have a step-daughter, she is 35 and has 6 kids of her own. Her birth mom died when she was 6 years old. I have raised her, loved her ( and disliked her along the way too!). But I survived step-parenting, with the help of the Lord.

My job is Geriatric home health care, (CNA) and I love my work. When I was a teenager many moons ago.... I had a
very real dream that I had died and stood before the gates of heaven. St. Peter came; and, said that I had to answer a question before I was allowed to come into heaven. I followed him to a large room, filled with older men with long white beards, sitting at a large table.

The question I was asked was: "Why does God love old people?". My response was "because they are wise, and wonderful in their ways". I got in!!! It was so real, so vivid that I knew instantly when I woke up that this is what I was suppose to do with my life... take care of the elderly, and after I became a Saved child of God, I lead them to the Lord also. I wanted to be a Geriatric Nurse, but decided that it was more important to be there when someone needed a bed pan, or a bath. So I choose the humble servant role, instead of the RN role. And I have never regretted it. I love my work!!

My next job is office manager for a retired Rabbi who turned Psychologist. It is not easy to witness to a Rabbi, but God
leads me. He is 80 years old.

And finally I am a Wildlife rehabilitator... I take care of injured and orphaned wildlife. Yeah!! I know some of you probably have a great disliking to certain wildlife, but the Lord has blessed with the gift of being able to take a dying animal, nurture
it, hand feed it, and put it back into the wild to live it's life. Squirrels are my speciality. I am know as the squirrel whisperer in my state.

I have a deep desire to leave CT and live the self sufficient life. So I came to learn. We have 4 chickens ( buff Orpingtons). They are 26 weeks old. I have had them since they were 2 days old. My husband built their coop and run. He thought I was
crazy when I told him I wanted chickens last year, and he moaned and groaned about "what is that going to cost", but now
he is really into them. Perhaps this will lead us into the homesteading lifestyle that I have always dreamed of.

Hope to make new friends, and learn from everyone.

Welcome whisperingpines

Best wishes with achieving your dreams.

I was stationed in Groton, back in the 80's, are you anywhere close to that area?

Welcome to our little corner of the world. I also have Buff Orpingtons. We tried Rhode Island Reds, but I much prefer the Buffs. Please, just jump in anywhere. If you have any questions, or knowledge to share, that's why we're all here, to learn and for the fellowship.

Thank you for the welcome, Mountainmamma

Right now I am preparing for " Hurricane Hybrid Sandy". I am also a CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Team) member, and CTSART (CT State Animal Rescue team) member. We have been put on alert for possible activation for the upcoming storm for CERT so far, I am sure CTSART will be next.
If we are activated, I will help to set up, and man the shelter at our local high school. We will be sheltering people and pets.
