Hello from Illinois Empty Hello from Illinois

Post by kerrig on Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:41 am

Hello! We live in the corn ghetto of Illinois. We are about 20 miles from Vincennes, IN & 15 miles from Olney, IL. We live in the little town of Sumner, population of 2800 unless you remove the prison population of 1700. Smile
Even though we live in town we can still have a pretty good sized garden & we could have chickens if we had the room.
We have 8 more years to pay on our home but are going to try and pay it off in the next 3 years and then we want to move to a different part of the country. Not sure where yet but somewhere pretty.
We have been married 14 years this coming December 15th. Between us we have 3 children-a daughter (22), son-n-law (22) & new granddaughter (8 months), my son (17) and his son (15).
I cook most everything from scratch, bake our bread in fact I bake breads and desserts & set up town and sell them.
I do the canning and preserving of everything that we get out of our garden and this year am going to buy more from the farmer's markets to supplement what doesn't come out of our garden.
I look forward to meeting you all and getting to know you and share ideas with each other. I am a member on Homesteading Today as well as here.
I almost forgot. We have been involved in music ministry most of our marriage. We have been on a journey spiritually and are now coming into the Catholic Church.

Welcome to our little family. Please just jump in in our various forums. I grew up in Rockford, IL, but haven't lived there since I was 15. I still have many relatives up there. We also have a couple of members from Illinois. Since you're a HT member I'm sure you will recognize some of the others here. I look forward to taking the homesteading journey together.

Thank you! You're up closer to Chicago then? I'm in the South Central part.
