Good common sense advice, but does list often overlooked practices and items. I would add one more item to the list, matches, lots and lots of matches

Keith,
I see your need for matches is for starting a fire to cook the food with. I think everyone would profit by learning to start a fire with flint and steel. My son and I learned this many years ago. It is very easy once learned and in fact on a windy day it is much easier than using matches. So flint and steel is part of my survival kit.

excellent tip, Rohn, the flint and steel is something I have yet to master, even though I prefer flintlock muzzleloaders

I'll start a new thread about this as soon as I get a chance. That way I can tell you how we do it.

I second the flint and steel. We stock up on matches, but have the flint and steel handy just in case. And if a person is really desperate, you can always start a fire with a magnifying gladd. Smile
