Depression Soup

2 tsp. oil
2 1/2 cups cubed potatoes
1 cup thinly sliced celery
1 medium onion, chopped
6 cups shredded cabbage (packaged for slaw works for me)
4 cups chicken broth
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 (15 oz.) can pork and beans

Mix all ingredients in a pot. Cook until potatoes are very tender and soft. Salt as desired.
Remove bay leaf before serving.
