My First Goal is:

My First Goal is: Empty My First Goal is:

Post by Mississippi Momma on Sat Mar 26, 2011 9:39 pm

I weighed this morning and I need to lose 90 pounds but I'm setting my first goal at 5o pounds. Fifty just seems easier to attain than 90. LOL I'm trying not to get discouraged to begin with.

Here we go Patrice. We'll hold hands (via internet) and walk this road together. We can do it. Very Happy

I need to lose 150lbs, I'll also set a 50lb. goal. I have to go pull out my meal plan stuff from the dietician. I was able to see a registered dietician when I was first diagnosed a Type 2 Diabetic, my insurance paid so I figured I might as well take advantage of it.

We might also think about an activity log to get/keep us moving because that is also a big part of any weight loss plan. Smile

Might a make a suggestion? Don't start as high as 50 pounds. Start small so you don't get discouraged. Maybe make weekly goals of 2 1/2 to 5 pounds. Losing too fast can be dangerous.

Ok, carry on. Smile

I was thinking of a smaller goal myself, but if I have a larger target I might be more motivated to stick to it easier once I see some results.

Well, it's been quite awhile, but I use to work at a health spa. I actually taught circuit weight training, but was never involved with the nutrition aspect. I do remember trying to get everyone to set smaller goals to avoid getting discouraged. It's easier to say to ourselves, I can lose a couple of pounds, than 50 pounds. Each time you reach your goal, you're that much closer to the ultimate goal. Hope that makes sense.

I lost 50 pounds. It took me two years to do it and I kept thinking that was long time to lose 50 pounds but each time I went to see my doctor I'd lost a few pounds. Sometimes only one in three months but he kept encouraging me by telling me that I was losing and not gaining.

But I didn't do any exercise or extra activity at that time. I'm moving around a lot more. Walking in the yard, gardening, taking care of the animals and such as that. May not sound like a lot of exercise but compared to what I was doing it is a lot more activity.

I don't want to lose fast because I'd just turn around and gain it right back. So I would be happy with 5 pounds a month. Smile

It's actually kind of funny. When you exercise your body starts craving the foods you actually need. Walking or swimming are great ways to exercise, of course, working around a garden is good too. Smile
