Hi from Florida
Hi, I'm new to the group so I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Joy and live in sunny Florida
but am a native of Upper East Tennessee which is where my home-heart is found. I miss my beloved
mountains as well as family. But with the economy the way it is, I'm afraid I'll still be in Florida for a
long while yet but believe someday the Lord will open doors to return home. I have always been
interested in living with a "homesteader lifestyle" for many years. I enjoy gardening, needle work and
reading. I'm looking forward to making friends with many of you.

Re: Hi from Florida
Hi Joe, what part of Florida do you hale from? We still own a home in Lakeland and my inlaws live in Aburndale/Winterhaven area. Also, where in Tennessee? We just visted Pigeon Forge. I love that area and try to get to the mountains at least once a year. My husband's got a Great Aunt that lives in Kingston.
I'm glad you joined us. We've been getting several new members lately, but not much posting going on right now. Hopefully it'll start picking up again soon. If you know others who are interested in the homesteading lifestyle and are Christians, please let them know about us. Even if they aren't Christians, they would be made welcomed here, as long as they don't attack the believers.

Re: Hi from Florida
I live in Lake Panasoffkee in Sumter Co which is about 55 miles NW or Orlando. It is a small old world Florida
fishing villiage. Husband works at Disney and I am in law enforcement but will retire this year. I'm ready!
I was born and raised in the Tri Cities, in a small town of Blountville, TN. That is very near the Virginia
border and around 90 miles NE of Pigeon Forge. We make it to the Smokies two times a year for my
"mountain fix". Glad you enjoy the Smokies as much as I do. What are your favorite places to visit
while there?

Re: Hi from Florida
Welcome Joy! My daughter and her fiancee went to Florida over Christmas break. They were thinking about moving down there but they decided to stay in Upstate New York.
What type of needle work do you enjoy doing? I'm a spinner and knitter.
You will like it here. The people on this board are wonderful and be sure to check out the recipes. They are great. I'm going to make some of the homemade crackers from there.

husband is from Otego, NY but has no desire to every go back to NY
to live. Small world.

Re: Hi from Florida
Joy, We usually go to Cherokee, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, although we don't usually do all the touristy things. We just like renting a cabin and enjoying the mountains.
Re: Hi from Florida
My daughters and I live in Port Crane, Whitney Point and Greene. I know exactly where Otego is. I purchased some sheep from a Monastery out there and also purchased my car from a dealership in Otego.
The part I would find hard to leave behind about Upstate New York, besides my daughters of course, is the change of seasons (well, with the exception of winter) and the hills. I don't think I'd do well where it was sunny and warm all the time. I think New York State is one of the most expensive states to live in too.

Re: Hi from Florida
Your area of NY is beautiful. The first time my husband took me there, I said
it looked like a Norman Rockwell painting. Just beautiful! And I loved the
small villages and the people were always so nice. I missed the change of
seasons as well coming from the beautiful mountains of Upper East TN. It
takes many years living in Florida to see the seasons here but we do have
them. They are just not as defined. Spring with loads of flowers, summers lush and green. Fall & Winter seem to run together but we do have some
bright foliage here and there. Today is cloudy & rainy and very gloomy just
like the North. Temps in the the high 20's-30's with frost several times this winter at night. Course, yesterday was sunny and in the 70's. Perfect. Each place has it's high points and lows I suppose. But I still miss my beautiful mountains.
