Hi, I am new to this forum. Such a joy to find a Christian forum about homesteading. I look forward to a long and lasting friendship with all of you.

Hi Nannie and welcome to our little corner of the world. I love the picture of your little dacshound (I know I butchered the spelling). My SIL has a long haired dauschaund named Hermie. Cutest little thing. Looking forward to getting to know you better.

Ah, this is our baby...her name is MONSTER...she is the only survivor of three, one died at birth and her brother, Clyde fell off the porch and broke his back. Hubby had to humanely put him out of his misery. So glad to have found this forum I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

I'm sorry to hear about Monster's siblings. That's always a hard thing to go through.

Here lately we've been getting several new members to the forum, so I'm hoping it'll breath new life into it. It really got slow in here for awhile. I blame myself for that because this year has been rough on me physically. I had to have a couple of surgeries and wasn't able to get online. Since the forum was still in it's infancy it got a little stagnant. But we do still have a few that post and I'm praying that more will join us so we can help one another.

Welcome aboard! And the stagnation is partially my fault too. I just don't know enough about homesteading....I run the debate area.

Monster is adorable! I am sorry about the loss of her siblings. That is rough to go through.

We are just glad that we were able to raise MONSTER. She is our baby....also have a border collie named PANDA. We've got cows, 1 amish buggy horse, chickens, hogs, 3 cats and hopefully a goat in the near future.

We're going to be ordering some chicks after the holidays. The batch we have now is our first time as chicken owners and we had a lot to learn. Smile We never managed to get any to really hatch out babies. Well, we did have one hatch and it died that same day. Not sure what happened there. Last time one of our hens got serious about going broody something got into the chicken house and got the eggs. We're thinking it was a weasle, since our neighbor saw one running around. Now our chickens are getting older we'll be butchering them soon. our 2 roosters will be butchered this week-end, and we'll be butchering the hens a few at a time till their all in the freezer.

I like the smaller goats. We did have some African Pygmies, but had to sell them after my back surgery. I'm just now to the point where I can handle taking care of goats again, so we picked up our ND's last week-end. I've already fallen in love with them. Not sure about getting any meat goats. I have no problem butchering the chickens, but I get too attached to the goats, so not sure I'd be able to butcher any.

I like fresh eggs too, and our girls produced enough eggs for us to have all we wanted and sell a few, enough to buy their feed. So they were pretty self-sustaining.
